Man I can't help but keep thinking back to how CoC1 handled it. I swear when it comes to sequels you're supposed to improve upon them, and not deliver an inferior product.1 - Unique mechanic or function, maybe the enable you to cook special recipes at camp or access special spells but they got to have something. Bg3 has Karlach with her soul coins or Gale needing to eat magic items.
2 - Character Drama. They bring something that interacts directly or indirectly or tangential with the story or lore of the narrative.
If that "companion" doesn't have at least 3 of these ticked off, its likely not gonna be good.
They were somewhat of a double-edged sword, but boy did they do follower drama right. All altercations made sense, and aside from understandably corruption-based arguments you could almost always work around the issue to keep both followers if one threatened to leave because of another.
The Kiyoko dream where she's jealous of Cait is stellar, except that it's unfortunately just that, a dream, and that she's conveniently just a mindless whore who exist just to push out children into the endless nameless children pit.
Give the characters more substance! Put those backgrounds, titles, and stats to use ffs.
Also damn that was quick, but ultimately a nothing-burger of an update. It would be more apt to just call it a hotfix, but hey, at least they got some typo fixes in there so I'm glad that's being addressed.0.8.2 ready.
- Viviane has a new quest that has a new set. This requires that you’ve met Vitruvius and Marilla in Khor’minos, and triggers upon entering the Frost Hound. And, y’know, having Viv as a Companion. (By Balak)
- Cait’s Get Squished scene has a new sub-scene accessible if Cait has a strapon. (By melonear)
- There’s a new Hashat loss scene for female elves. (By SlothfulSpectre, coded by Squishy)
- Balance Adjustments: Thieves’ 1st level at-will, Fading Strike, has been reworked to be a little more useful, and the Warrior’s 1st-level recharge, Rend, has had its Bleed damage increased. The Trident has had its inherent Bleed damage reduced, and its bleed can’t crit.
- The dyslexic-friendly font option should no longer reset every time you reload the game. Whoops.
