Was so disappointed when I first found AVNs. But Cosy Cafe is hot.
Disappointed how?? Like all forms of art & entertainment the vast majority of them are terrible, boring and derivative, but also like all other forms there are a good amount that are very creative and unique, and a few here and there that will speak to you like they were hand-crafted personally for your soul to enjoy. You just have to have the patience to wade through a lot of junk to find the surprise pearls hidden away like Easter eggs. This is one of them, but there are definitely a few more around that are also amazing. (y)

Found out that there is very little common ground between the current day men on this site and myself. Also sexual fantasies wise.
The other part is the shockingly low quality of sex scene writing. Probably has to do with the very small overlap between the men who have sex and the men who create AVNs. Plus a lack in imagination and talent in descriptive writing. Sounds arrogant but I cannot describe it otherwise.
Was never too much impressed with old school erotic fiction writing, but its way above even the top rated AVNs. Exception are this and the brothel game.

I may still enjoy some games, but the A in AVN does very little for me in those.

Your tags pic was really funny. Thanks for that.

They stated they liked Cosy Cafe (called it hot), so theoretically, they have played it. Also, they said they were disappointed, not hated. They said, in general, there was a lack of good writing, and pointed to CC as an example of good writing. Saying to stop playing AVN, is like you saw a bad B-grade movie, and now you should stop watching all movies. Some people have higher standards, and finding those rare gems, is also sometimes worth the pursuit.

Final note, they were responding directly to a person, who asked a few questions about why they felt the way they felt. It was not forum bombing (coming into a forum, saying the that games suck, and leaving). Everyone has their own opinions, as long as they are being nice (and I felt they were), its all good to see them discussed.

if not, go back and enjoy VNs from Visual arts and Key era
it is why they're still the best VN maker in the world

[Thanks. Something about the wording struck me as very humorous., and I was giggling to myself the entire time I was editing the image.]

Well again, I think there are some diamonds in the rough out there, and after a while you learn to ID the worst of the turds quicker and not waste as much time. But even if old-school erotic fiction was better back in the day (and I'm not sure I agree because from what I remember that was usually pretty terrible stuff), I think you are sort-of missing the forest for the trees: AVNs are visual novels that tell their stories with images and animations.

Since they are created by and for people from all over the world on the internet, devs are writing in all different languages and getting translated (often poorly) or writing in very limited non-native English. So expecting prose that is anything more than functional is probably unrealistic. But for many devs the script probably isn't even a Top 3 concern because the vast majority of their time & effort is spent on the nuts and bolts of the product - the coding and rendering of the 'visual' and interactive components.

So I think expecting great writing and well-planned plots & dialogue is bringing unrealistic expectations with you. Those games do exist, but they are rare and gather lots of fans to them, fans that are protective of the gems they know they have found (like this one). My suggestion is to keep searching because there are other good ones out there. But like every woman I've ever dated, you probably will have to learn to lower your standards a little bit.

As mordred93 stated, you got me wrong friend. I love this game. There are a few other western AVNs I enjoy, too, but regarding the sex scenes only two (two and a half lol) are good imo - this and the brothel game. Cosy Cafe is hot in many ways, the whole scenario is.

Cosy Cafe is made with a programm called Honey Select. You can find it here on this site. I like this style as well.

The japanese are awesome when it comes to sex scene writing. Thats why I'm so disappointed with western AVN sex scene writing. Sadly the anime style in japanese VNs is not that arousing to me. And having the same image for half the scene isn't either. If you'd mix the japanese writing with the western visuals - that would be a satisfying experience.

Thanks for recommendations! May have a look.

lol at entitled karen reference :KEK:

Play AVNs since quite a few years. I'd believe I experienced the better ones. I have no complaints about the plots and dialogs - they are good enough for me. Like written to ultimecea above, I'm purely disappointed by the sex scene writing, especially since so many japanese creators of AVNs are pulling it off well. I think the creators of pale carnations did the right thing: one guy is into creating the visuals, and the other into writing erotic fiction - and they teamed up. "And that little maneuver" made them create the imo best quality game on this site, if one leaves personal preferences aside. Wish more did that. Its how the japanese do it as well.

Agree with your assessment, though.

Kind greetings

this guy confusing good writing with preference.
The internets was a bad idea. If solely for the reason that people are safe from getting their teeth kicked in. Makes them forget basic politeness.

Would like to ask you to stop being so disrespectful. It's the Cosy Cafe thread after all. We all just want to have a good day. Life is hard enough.

Cosy is on the side of better AVNs. I'd put it in the same tier as N2theFire's games. Well written, older visuals but edited enough to be good and believable characters/kinks.

There's ones that are just pure trash, but they're made to be trash.
There's ones that are just feeding into the latest trend to make money (AI NTR Phone clones)
Then there's the high production ones, the massive games like BaDiK, Eternum, Broken Dreamers, those kinds of games.

The problem with playing VN's as long as I have, I find very little I'm still interested in, I can only play the Good and Great quality anymore.

Spoiler'd to keep topic only on Cosy.

Matter of opinion there, I've played Last Human and while it's ok, I'd certainly rate Cosy Cafe as being better written and thought out.

I'd consider Cosy to be among the best HS2 games, which for some strange reason at the top end I find the best of tend to be the best written of games using any graphics engine. I'd put it up with Stray Incubus(rip), Evermore(rip), Forgotten Pathways(rip).... not liking the pattern here... Between Humanity, Always Fan, Innana's Revenge, MBiML.
Cosy so far doesn't seem to go too hard with the writing in terms of things like symbolism or deep allegories, but it's extremely enjoyable, heartwarming and as the name says cozy. It's like a cup of hot chocolate and a big blanket in the middle of winter. Just the hot chocolate has a bunch of viagra in it or something.

this guy confusing good writing with preference.
Could you back-up what you are saying here with more details? The very definition of "good" is a preference. "Good" is a qualitative word, which means that there is no way to objectively determine "goodness". It is through experience, knowledge, and research that someone determines what "Good" means to them.
