I agree - Harriet is a Very hot sister (although I favor Alison as the hottest of those the redheads).

I'm still hoping for Harriet's husband to do something so bad, it prompts a divorce (like getting caught trying to steal family funds).

A very upset Harriet, seeing how happy MC has made both Alison and Hannah, lets her father and sisters know that she wants to become a sister wife with them and she will be happy to be part of building a stronger bond between the Gilbert and Fletcher families.

This would have to happen much further in the story, so Hannah is no longer betrothed to Brian and Alison's plan to create a new faction led by the Fletcher family is already bearing fruit.

This is currently only fan fiction but I'm one who hopes that MC can get catch another beautiful redheaded 'pokemon' bringing us one step closer to:

Hey guys, it's time for another dev log, and I have a bit more to say than in the last one!

First, I'm happy to report that I've had a very productive couple of weeks! Since the last dev log I've completed another 200 renders, bringing the current total up to roughly 1500 now. However, the lion's share of my time has been spent on animation.

The new animation method I mentioned a while ago is taking more time than I expected, which is partly why I ended up pushing my target release date back, however it's opening up a lot of new possibilities for animated scenes. This update will include five in total, a new record, for which so far I have completed 45 videos. I'm currently part way through animating the third scene, and I have one small one, and then one very big one at the end of the update left to go.

UI improvements
Beyond the story content, I've also started working on implementing a bunch of new UI features designed by the same person who did the total UI overhaul a few updates back. These are mostly little improvements that have been requested by players since the last major UI work, but I think it all adds up to making the game nicer to play! (skip past the bullet points if you don't want to read the full list)

First, when starting a new game there will be a new screen for selecting a specific day to start from (WORK IN PROGRESS):

The different chapters will split between the planned time skips that I've mentioned before, and the window at the bottom will allow you to start from any day you want, instead of being limited to a specific update like with the current menu system.

Next, a few minor additions:

  • Added Left/Right buttons to the image gallery and character bio screens so that you can easily scroll through the stuff you've unlocked (this one has been requested quite a bit!)
  • The save/load screen will now highlight the current page at the bottom, and will scroll the bottom numbers when you go beyond page 10 - not something I'd ever thought about, but this is another frequent request from people who make loads of saves.
  • The main textbox will now become scrollable if you increase the font size. At the moment, increasing the font size much beyond default just mangles everything!
  • Added alt text across the whole UI - this is the text used by screen readers, which was requested by a blind player.
  • Finally, we've fixed a bunch of minor bugs (like the "mute all" button on the audio section messing with your in-game font size!), and made minor performance improvements to the load times of the bio and gallery pages.
4k game version
I was discussing the game recently on the (feel free to join it if you want to chat!) and the subject of a 4k version of the game came up. It just so happens that I actually do all of my raw rendering in 4k, so it would be possible for me to make a 4k version of the game... This would come with a few caveats, however.

First, not all of the 4k renders have had post work done on them (the final stage of cleaning them up using photoshop and other image editing software) so it would take some time to do that.

Next, the file size would be huge. When 0.13 comes out, the total render count will be somewhere in the region of 17,000. Think 100GB+ for the 4k version. With that in mind, this would be limited to desktop only (so no android).

All in all, it would probably take me a couple of weeks of dev time to put this together. So the main reason I'm bringing it up here is to ask you all if you'd be interested in it? I'm more than happy to do it, but if the file size puts everyone off then the 2 weeks would be better spent working on new game content.

Patreon currency changes
This one is just a minor PSA more than anything. Nothing to worry about:

Someone asked recently about me changing the patreon tier pricing, which confused me as I haven't changed them at all since I started. After looking into it a bit, it turns out it's just currency fluctuations. As some of you may know, I'm English, so my tier prices are actually set in pounds and then converted to other currencies. Patreon update their conversion rates once or twice a year, which is why you might see a little fluctuation if you look. But, to the part that they wanted me to clear up:

THIS DOES NOT EFFECT YOUR ONGOING SUBSCRIPTION.

Whatever you agreed to pay when you signed up is what you will continue to pay. It won't change without you being asked/informed, and I have no plans to change the tier prices.

Conclusion
And I think that's everything for this one. We're slowly closing in on the release of version 0.13 at last. I think for the amount of content it has probably been pretty standard, but I feel like I've been working on this one for ages. Possibly because I've also been doing a lot of the detailed planning for the updates that come after it, and I'm really excited to start working on some of the story in those!

There's gonna be at least one more dev log before the release, at which point I should finally be able to give you a somewhat accurate release date.

So, until next time, and as always, thank you for your support!

My $0.02 is that a 4K version makes no sense for a HS1 game when your time can be better spent on brand new content and seeing the whole game through.

If the whole 4K thing is literally just a cut-and-paste (I.E., the files already have the same name, so you could just overwrite the original image files) the easiest thing to do would be to offer a first patch with the backlog of 4k files. Then people that really want one could just upgrade the official version themselves. That way, the current workflow would only be minimally effected, and android players could still play.

Cosy would have to put the 4k images into the same folder tree the current ones are in, but that would be a one-time effort (although still would take some time). Then each update the 4K versions of just that update could be released as a new patch file, and it would be up to each player to make sure each update gets all the 4k images. That would cut down on Cosy's future work flow and the file size of each download.

Always better to let the player that wants the top tier stuff to do some of the work themselves. :p

Putting it together wouldn't be the time consuming part on my end, though I think it would be a bit more complicated than simply dropping the new images in as CC is currently a 1080p renpy game and it would need converting to a 4k one - at the moment if you drop a 4k image in it displays it in 4k through a 1080p window, so basically you only see the top left quarter of the image. It would also probably need the image cache size increasing to accommodate 4k images. These two issues also mean I (probably) couldn't (easily) just release the new stuff as a 4k patch, unfortunately, either.

But aside from that, the main time consuming part for me would be getting all of the older images into a useable state. In the newer content (0.8 and onwards) I've got all of the 4k versions with post work (photoshop fixing clipping etc) saved, so they would be fine. However, on a lot of the earlier stuff it's more of a mixed bag.
For example, every uniform shot from behind up to 0.7 needs the clipping between the skirt and sweater fixing:

All of the images that require in-game stuff to be photoshopped such as phone/computer screens etc would probably need to be re-done, too.

It's possible that if I go through some of my old hard drives and backups I might find some of the stuff from 0.3 onwards already done. But the 0.1 and 0.2 stuff is from the original crappy PC I started on, and that stuff's gone now and I'm just left with the raw unedited images.

It's all very doable, but like I said, it would take some work.

Okay, so not as easy as I thought, but for the viewing part, could you put a 1080/4k choice button in the preferences, which could auto-change those variables, so it would default to 1080, but then someone could drop the 4k patch in, then when they start, go to preferences and switch to 4k mode? (that would probably need a restart I imagine, so that would have to be noted in the choice menu ... or they could make the change, quit, THEN drop in the first patch and start the game again.)

Anyway, it looks fine on my monitor regardless, so I'm just contributing to the chaos theory at this point.

EDIT: Also, I suppose you'd want the graphics choice button to be suppressed in the Android version, if that is possible.

Personally, I would strongly advise against any kind of 4K resolution conversion, even if it would only take the most absolutely minimum of effort. For starters, you really only get a miniscule "upgrade" in visual fidelity with a game like Cosy Cafe, and that alone makes it not worth it. But then adding to that, it would exponentially add to your workload, since for every new version you release, you would also need to update the 4K version as well.

I would say those are two very good reasons not to faff about with any ultimately unnecessary "extras" like different versions and such. Granted, you could hold off on converting the game to a full 4K resolution release when it's otherwise all done with, but... Again, why put in the effort when the game looks perfectly fine as is?

You do you, of course, but for whatever my perspective's worth, I just wouldn't bother. It simply is not worth the hassle. After all, how many people in this thread have really asked for it to be done, huh?

I'd say leave the 4k version to a post-final update after the game is complete, bug-fixed, etc...
Story progression is more important right now and with that file size, it serves a very niche audience. But admittedly, I could see myself, once everything is completed, doing a single, stunning 4k playthrough to enjoy Cosy Cafe for all it has to offer, just not before then.

All in all, it would probably take me a couple of weeks of dev time to put this together. So the main reason I'm bringing it up here is to ask you all if you'd be interested in it?

I would say just ask your Patreons with a poll and if there's enough people that want that, then sure why not?

I'm just happy to know you do fix the clothes clipping issues that crop up. That's one of my pet peeves in a lot of these games is that they don't bother fixing that stuff.
