The web version of the game is not compatible with the plugin that changes the players expressions, so it has to be disabled. As a result, since the code to change the faces is still there, it shows up in the text boxes. Sorry for the inconvenience, but there's no way around that unfortunately.
Tried running the linux version to no avail, then the web version and just get this error.

Sorry to hear the Linux version isn't working, if you want you can also upload whatever error pops up with that, or what happens when you try to run it, and I can see if I can find a solution. I'm not terribly confident when it comes to Linux issues though. As for the web version, you will typically need this guide to configure your browser to run RPG Maker MV games.
You must be registered to see the links
However, the error your reporting isn't the usual one that comes up when you don't follow the above guide, and based on the /deck/ in your filepath, I'm thinking this might be a steam deck? That could change things. If the guide above doesn't work, let me know if it's a steam deck, I can try and see if there's anything else you need to do on that system. Thanks.
I'm playing for the first time (the latest version available) and there seems to be a weird sequence break issue where I have access to what I assume is the first dungeon (darkwood dungeon) immediately and the game acts like I've done some previous scene if I access it. If I start the second(?) dungeon (sorceress dungeon) it references the first one so I have no idea when I was supposed to reach the darkwood dungeon or how but I'm worried about continuing with this weird sequence break issue causing issues down the line. anyone else encountered this and know what to do about it?
So you have access to the Deepwoods Dungeon immediately, or is this after playing somewhat, but before you actually went and started/completed the dungeon? If you've played somewhat, have you gone to the bar? I went and checked, and noticed a testing event leftover that would have marked the dungeon as complete if you stepped on the wrong space and pressed Z (the event is invisible, so you wouldn't have noticed it.) In either case, if you'd like to upload your save file and global.rpgsave file, I can take a look to try and see what's happened, and (probably) fix it then upload your save back for you.
