CMA is not a linear visual novel where you just add a few porn scenes every month. It is a complex game and it is growing with every update and getting more complex. TheGary usually adds a lot content with each update, especially high quality graphics. (Animations still have room to improve.) If this update has only a few new scenes then it is because a lot of effort must have went into reworking the existing code to :
- fix bugs
- split the available content into 3 stand alone chapters
- add new GUI
- enable roll back
- add the new tracking system
etc.
I suppose that some effort also already went into new office content which is not finished and comes with the next update.
If you remember CMA started about 1 year ago and for a single developer creating a game like CMA with all the current content in maybe 15 months is quite extra-ordinary. You have to evaluate the complete project, not only the visible output of the last 2 months.
The new structure of the content is a different point. Creating content which is split into different paths which players can not access in a single playthrough is new and does not fit the game design philosophy so far that there are no bad choices and the player can see 100% content in one playthrough. This also reduces the number of visible scenes, so current content seems to be smaller than it really is. (Example : There is a scene when agreeing to play with handcuffs, but since this turns out to be a bad choice, nobody will choose this path or only to have a small glimpse.)
I appreciate what you said/typed, but, and I don't want to be stickler, didn't I say most of what you said, only less detailed? If you read the particular post you referenced you'll see that I
do take into account all the effort TheGary (and his team) have put into this update. I also said that it was a
bit of a disappointment, not a complete one. The
only point I criticized was that there may have been a slight miscommunication/misunderstanding about what the word 'big' meant. That for some people, the word '
big' as used in conjunction with 'update', was interpreted as meaning a large amount of content. Keep in mind, that most people here didn't know what this update would entail, at all, before it was published after two months. Without knowing that TheGary was planning to include an entire(ly) new environment, people logically, perhaps foolishly, assumed that a big update meant a lot of content.
Most people have no clue whatsoever how big of a challenge it is to create a game as great as this one, at all! I have, over the past 3 years gained a good amount of insight on how both Unity and Ren'py work but I still wouldn't be able to create a game that anyone here wouldn't puke on, literally. The same goes for most of the members and non-members here as well, I assume (with some confidence, please no 'ass and me'-comments
).
If you read back my most recent posts on this thread you'll see I have complimented TheGary (and his team) on multiple occasions, because I think this is an awesome game and that the developer is a figurative 'diamond in the rough'.
Anyway I digress, I think we agree about (almost) everything and that there may have been a slight misunderstanding about what I meant when I criticized TheGary. I apologize.
Finally, let me reiterate what I said in a previous post, 'let's hope it only gets better from here on out' (as it always has with The Gary).
