If they're really planning for something like a new game to take up a 7+ month window, and that's what they have it slated for, I'll expect to see something tangible within the next 1.5 months then. As a show of good faith that yes, they *are* doing a new project to be interested in.

That also sets the timeline release window for around March-April of 2025

New Patreon post:

The TLDR, they’re out of money and they’re gonna plan out a new smaller game to help kick start the team’s resources and get things rolling for themselves.
How are they out of money when they have so many paid supporters? I don't see the number on Patreon though.

It doesnt seem like they have that many paid supporters, when I look at their patreon it says 490 paid supporters. and it seems that they are getting under 2k dollars.

Should've focused on what people wanted, more Sex scenes and story unstead of the garbage mini games and engine schenanigans.
For the life of me I don't understand why this happens with so many projects again and again. For the small chance that the reason is actually just mismanagement of resources and not an attempt to rip off their paying fanbase, just take what you learned during development and implement it in your NEXT project. No reworks, no remakes, NEXT project. When they announced the changes to the lighting I laughed and stopped my support on Patreon.

It's a porn game with good art, it doesn't have to be more than that. The squandered potential is insane.

Pretty retarded way of thought. If all you want is porn, feel free to just watch porn.
They want a porn game, don't be a retard. They don't want 20 hours of Earthbound rpg and puzzle solving to get to a few scenes just to jerk their dick to, they want the focus to be porn.
But feel free to let us know of any pixel art porn that looks like this.

I think it is fair if the dev finally realizes that his aims for the game were too high for what he can accomplish and invest time for. But perhaps he also simply got complacent after getting paid a lot of money despite not publishing anything for two years now.

If he actually releases a new, shorter game, then i'd certainly play it. The content so far in this game was pretty good and fun. Assuming it isn't just another one-shot afternoon teaser like that halloween minigame.

Okay, so I was annoyed as anybody when I got the news he's putting out another game for money reasons (even deleted my post over it) but the characters there to admittedly look pretty hot.

Now I hope this is actually a full fucking game. It's supposed to be smaller in size to help pay for DBA, right?

Actually out of curiosity, is this even going to pay for DBA at this point? Dude apparently said he's having trouble paying his bills and had to sell his game collection (Fuck me how you get $1800+ a month and need to sell your items to get by) but if patron money goes into bills, is he going to magically just use this money to live comfortably while Skullgear works on the game (which is apparently just two guys?) and for how long will that go on if DBA has been on hiatus for 2 years?

Not trying to be an ass, I'm just struggling to make sense of it all.

Unsolicited advice from a long-time fan

ONI if you're reading this, I strongly suggest you find a job that pays your bills and develop games in your free time. (Maybe you already do, I'm just guessing here). Relying on Patreon and one payout from a game won't support you or your family for long. You need a sustainable balance.

I am hopeful and believe you can do it, but I don't think Lust Planet will solve your problems. It may help, but you need long term stability to get DBA out. Not a one-time payout. Take care of yourself and your family, then work on games because you want to, not because you have to.

That said I am very excited to see the game and hopeful for the future of DBA afterwards.

See you all in '25

i still don't get it, he wants money, so work 50x harder on a whole new game than just updating this game every 3-5 months with content people want? does he think the dandy boy patreons will stay while getting new people for this game or what.
Also the fact he has all these teaser pics(pixel art can't be made that fast) looking like a plot/story already made up for the game as if he had this plans for MONTHS now

Its easy to makes points without understand the problems and struggle, DBA is a project with no guide sheet, they were making the game has they were developing, so for them to make the updates every 3-5 months without having to look back and remake stuff, they would have to take the time off to plan the story for each char, get a structure of the feature the game its gonna have and for the dimension the game its suppose to be its not easy, their patreons are aware of everything its not like the devs were hidding the problems.

So making a whole new game spending more time and possibly making less money in the end sounds like a bad plan, unless they are planning to have a complete game and sell it on Steam for $40 and get more than 100 people to buy it

Their new game for what i understood its going to be full game that is why the release to be set to 2025, they not wasting time cause they been upgrading engine and create assets, so its not time wasted, but sadly they need income for both devs to be able to work full time, that is why making a new game with a plan can work and possibly give them the income they need.

Yup, these are my thoughts exactly. The plan sounds fine on paper but honestly is insanely unrealistic. According to his public post he'll use the money to FINISH DBA, and some things about that don't add up:

For one thing, the money earned will most definitely not be substantial. It's a game that will be easy to finish, and I sincerely doubt they'll be charging more than 15 USD for it. You can buy actual full length porn indie games like FlipWitch for 15, so a short game that has less content than DBA is definitely not going to go for too much.

And if DBA COULD have been finished with a budget, why in the world did he wait until going bankrupt to actually CARE to finish it? To any that don't remember, for the past 2 years they've been posting nothing but engine "updates", small details that should be considered fluff like cloud shadows and the animation of the world. Story updates were scarce and only ever hinted. And there were no public/patreon update releases. Now my memory on this is fuzzy but Oni claimed they've been withholding updates so they have content on their Steam release.

Despite that, it makes absolutely no sense to withhold update releases when most if not all of your patrons are literally giving you money to get early access to your game. What did this idiot thing would happen? People will just give money for nothing? So the only thing I can think of is they haven't been working on the game.

So with that in mind, what will a meager budget do for DBA? Imagine if the game sells a thousand copies at 10 USD, so he'll have 10K, and then what? How do we know that the money will actually go into DBA and they won't piss it on "engine updates"?

Lastly, the fact that they have the money to make this new game makes no sense when they're going bankrupt.
Something doesn't smell right here. But whatever.
