I know that and everyone said he was essentially abandoning the game myself included but I was wondering if he has since came out and said he has abandoned it. I thought if he intended to come back he would have had it put on hold.

He has fully abandoned it as far as we're aware. Supposedly he was making another game within the same universe but there hasn't been any info from him since, so I guess that would be the end of it.
