Mr.Dots and his team appears to have generated a game wherein the female lead and several supporting characters have taken on a much greater personality than is common in most gaming, adult or otherwise. D is not merely a 2 dimensional vehicle for driving sexual events, D is character who has a real identity and personality. Fans expect D's actions to remain true to who she has become, and even hypothesize on future events based on D's personality, declarations and actions.
It's sort of akin to when the actors on Star Trek assigned real world functions to their prop set starship consul. The prop became a "functioning" device.
