Well, considering that they got rid of the points display for tits, ass, exhibitionism, etc, it's possible the petals will no longer matter as well, although there are still some things she could do that would get rid of the remaining few.

I reckon that for the people on the D-only path, they will just have a lot of petals left over as the "true" path was always the more adventurous one where she experiments with others and with different sexual activities. I never got that feeling about this game at all. This game has, to me, always felt like it would evolve into a romantic love story between D & F and that other characters, primarily the other girls, would become a part of it. Mr Dots may have started out wanting to throw in all sorts of crazy kinks and fetishes, but it's clear they have changed their approach when you look at both this game and their other games (Melody and Sunshine Love) and that their strength now lies in telling sweet, emotional, romantic stories that also feature lots of sex.

That may be "vanilla" but it works for these games and Mr Dots is good at it. I honestly cannot imagine the D from the beginning of the game or the D from this point in the story going down a really depraved route, and it honestly wouldn't suit her to do so and could actually ruin this game if she did.

I think the route we take has more to do with our world views.

If indeed there was no official statement, I tend to see the officialisation of chapter 4 as time to go towards these goals. I must admit I don't have much hope about the dog, but I don't see why gangbangs or orgies would be so far fetched. Sure it's hard to imagine believable enough story points for these events to happen, but it's not like the premise of the story was super realistic in the first place, and it was all sufficiently well told so that we collectively agreed to believe it.

Some of you are comparing DmD to Melody or Sunshine Love, and you're forgetting that those games are on Patreon and DmD isn't. If I was in MrDot's shoes, I would like to have a game where I have more freedom to explore more extreme fetishes to counter balance Patreon's biggotery. Aka "let's make porn as safe and family friendly as Disneyworld".

I read the same things about bestiality, but I disagree about sharing. To my knowledge, they never said there won't be sharing, just that you will be able to avoid it if that's not your thing.
