So about the light rigs, if I use spot lights like using 3-point lighting.
It may cast shadows from the character as well as the enviornment which may not seem realitic real life lighting.
How to solve that problem?
just an example using the mentioned canvas rendering
goal:
create a night scene with goodrays and one figure, to make it even more difficult the figure is wearing a black dress.
using hdri, or mesh/normal lights for lightning the figure would interfere with the goodrays and create additional shadows.
solution:
using the canvases like explained in the video
not perfect, but this was just playing around for about 20 minutes.
