I'm not a wine drinker so I don't really know what goes with wine, but in my mind cake goes with anything.

Yes, I think it's an inspired combination. In fact, in the wine town of Los Olivos, California, there is a winery that pairs wine tasting flights with cupcake tasting flights. It's absolutely fantastic.
