Honestly, I was really disappointed because I stayed on the station first and then all of a sudden

The art itself is great even if I could have done without some of the gore and the degradation did get a bit too constant and extreme as you mentioned, but it's really the plot direction that I took issue with.

The dwq folder in the download is missing the 4 files shown on the picture when I downloaded the game from here. All I did was copy those from Steam version + d2d1.dll + sjis_ext.bin (Those 6 files ONLY from the Steam version, leave the rest the same.) And it worked like a charm!
I am now quite the adept at solving JAST games problems now.
The mystery now is the same as Yamizome Revenger: Why did those files didn't get included when I downloaded the game?

Any chance you could upload those missing files here? Played the prequel by downloading it from steam, but still can't get the main game to load. Tried dl'ing it from GOG but looks like the same files are missing...

Did you say the main game? For the main game, you only need the two last files: They're attached in this post. Hopefully they'll be of help. The main game worked fine for me! I had problems with the prequel only.
Note that these are the files of my game copy. I deleted the game myself but preserved these files just in case someone had the same problem.

just finished the prequel. that was seriously good. even though its so... comical, couple that with how comical Lisette's antics is all the time. and yet you just know something dark happened and will still happen.

and then the main game starts with a Silent Night? I'm gonna have a blast with this. I know I'm late to the party, but man this amount of gloom is perfect for me.

You cannot. Someone would need to create a mod to use the western art for the Japanese version of the game because the uncensored version isn't licensed or even legally allowed in Japan.
