It's a great, but common, mistake to think that because people were slaves, they must have had an absolutely terrible life.
There are of course plenty of examples were the lives of some slaves, was, in fact, absolutely terrible but in many cases a slave was just another well respected member of the household. For example, in charge of the education of the children, or cooking (with risk of poison!).
The difference between them and a modern day employee was, as Machete said, that they couldn't resign. However they could often save money and purchase their freedom at some point.
The advantage of being a slave was that it was your owners obligation to provide adequate food, shelter and protection. For many who lived in dangerous times, slavery was actually a preferable condition. This is why feudalism could emerge in the middle ages, people traded freedom for protection.

Ok, after digging through the code, it seems like I missed both places that could set
kat_romance = True.Go back to when she was visiting in the kitchen and answer "You could say that", when Zahra asks you "Surely you are interested in her not just for her cooking...?".
Or just open a console, set the variable, and press "Skip a day".

Yeah, thing is, the wt just says "If you show Kateryna that she’s beautiful, it seems to puts you on a path for KATERYNA’S ROMANCE". And I wasn't romantically inclined.
The quest log however, started saying that I just needed to wait a couple of days, and then she would show up. And kept saying that, day after day...
So I am thinking of it more as a bug in the quest log, rather than complaining that I missed a decision.

yeah it is not very clear in the WT that is true, I also (even if I'm on Katarynas romance path) failed to unlock the "House party" and the option to have her join in the comon room, so yeah probably a bug.

I always found it hotter when there are sex noises and moans during the scenes but the writing can truly take a scene to the next level if done done right.
I've played games where the visuals were meh but the writing made it one of the hottest things ever but maybe that's just me.
