Canon MC is male, but there are times when the game switches to a female character's perspective. So far, the protag switch hasn't happened very often and you do have the option to bypass those scenes.

The tags show both female & male protagonist but at the same time no 'multiple protagonist' tag. So am I correct to assume that you can either choose the MC to be female or male?

Yes just hoped a little more resistance through because the sandbox of the game make her little to easy to get (but it's my preference here).
