I would advise against it. The save folder was changed for a reason as many things in the code have changed.

Yeah, I concur with GetOutOfMyLab. Lots of internal code changes have been made between V0.16 and V0.17, so even if you change the save file location, due to the inherent code changes, backwards compatibility won't work since there have been a lot of drastic changes introduced to the core game between different versions. Hence why the dev team have been communicating the fact that old saves will not work as effectively due to the introduction of the reworks and all.
Anyways, guys just skip to the point where you had left off in V0.16 in V0.17. Very easy and should not take that much time to do. Let's put the nail in the coffin for these pointless save game compatibility debates already lol

LOL. I thought the v. 0.17 update was something I imagined in my head. I'd been checking for updates way too often these past few weeks. This just made my day!
How stable is this release?
I don't mind replaying the game, but I don't wanna rereplay in the next release because some crucial variables got corrupted, ifyouknowwhatimean.

Holy shit, the new update is freaking amazing. I almost cried at some point. It works perfectly with the music.
I am struggling with this notion that I had about the game going soft over time. It's... less wild. But there's still gruesome and impactful scenes.
...And I am finding a few bugs, some scenes like the travel with Ain is not triggering in my new game, and Ivy is talking before doing her personal quest. A few other glitches and bugs here and there.
But the new content is amazing, I am impressed.

My persona pc saves didnt work. I got some saves in here and also didnt work, so Im guessing not very stable if thats your concern

There's a bug in the game. Redownloading isn't going to fix it. Don't play beta versions if you can't deal with the bugs.

It being a beta version of the game is probably why you and a bunch of others are experiencing those issues
As mentioned on the V0.17 title screen:
I'm sure it will be addressed in subsequent stable build version releases of the game

Saves can't work because they have been made incompatible, but that's not a bug. They changed some early scenes, one of them meaningfully in my opinion. You know a character that can appear later.
The game is relatively short since you don't have to do every quest to get to the new content.
