Use the canon relationships: Zaton and Zahra are Shani & Ain landlords, and the girls are their tenants. So instead of protege and mistress just use tenant and landlady respectively.
Protege = Daughter or Step Daughter. Depending on what you prefer.
The devs have stated that, according to Zetan culture, it would make as much sense for Ain and Shani to be Zaton and Zahra’s real daughters as it would be for them to be adoptive daughters (from a temple, where many children are birthed by priestesses). Since writing out “adoptive” just wastes space (people with adopted children in most cases just call them their sons or daughters, unless there’s a need to specify), the canonical relationships in either case would therefore be “daughter” for Ain and Shani, with Zaton as their father, and Zahra their mother.
