I'ma be real. I'm a jrpg veteran. I've played Jrpgs since I was 5, hell I still want J-rpgs to this day. Turnbased combat is my jam.
That being said, the combat in this game is just absolute bullshit balanced LOL. This wont appeal to anyone. You cant have fucking massive HP sponge enemies while also doing high dmg number hits on the player, its stupid. You're just forcing people to cheese, and thats even what I HAVE to resort to as a person that actually knows how to navigate all kinds of jrpgs. Either stun-lock AOE spam, insta-kill, or exploiting some flaw in the game design (IE: the ability to make infinite money) to buy the best of everything right off rip, including a boatload of items.
My point is, that is just lazy. You can do the high dmg numbers, you can keep the enemies having double attacks/status effects and what not, but you gotta tone these health totals down if you want to do this kind of style. If an enemy can kill me in a single double attack, then they should die in 4-6 hits not 24-32 with the practical best weapons in the game (literally 1 upgrade away from max on everyone). I shouldn't have to rely on a 5% insta-kill to get through trash enemies that seemingly scale their level to mine and just get even more impossibly annoying to deal with. I got to the point where I just got Akemi, who is 9 levels behind the rest of my crew, and she spends more time on the floor dead, because of a single hit than actually doing anything in a section where its locked to her and MC (which also doesnt make sense since you killed the fucking entrance guard and proceed to fight everyone in the camp anyway) and its just frustratingly annoying.
I enjoy hard games, I really do, but I dont enjoy "skyrim hard" games where its just a slider that you drag in either direction that just influences how many attacks to kill each other. Thats boring. Theres nothing special about it. Theres no reason a desert snake needs to hit for 412 x 2 when a character has a max of 831 hp. But then the enemy has a total of like 6000 health and you hit it for ~200-250 max. This is why half the thread is begging for saves I would bet.
Kinda wish the dev was here just so I could actually make the arguments to them, but sadly, I just have to scream into the ether of how not to do a jrpg. A single trash enemy fight is unironically as hard to about 3x harder depending how many enemies it generates in the fight, as a boss fight in this game, I Just wanna make that perfectly clear. The bosses in this game are a literal joke in comparison to the overworld enemies. It's so disgustingly bad lol.
Hell theres even enemies in this game that when they get low HP they magically summon 3 more enemies to come fight you that are equivalently as strong as the one lone enemy, so you went from a single enemy to now 4 enemies all of equal power, health, and ability. So guess what fixes that? You guessed it! Insta-kill cheesing! Might as well just give everyone a god beam to navigate the stupidly dragged out combat
