I apologize if I sounded like I was trying to mislead. She's very obviously there to appeal to a certain fetish. All the girls are. What I was trying to say by a "play on pure sexual fantasy/fetish " was that I wouldn't be satisfied if her only scene was to walk in like "Hi, I'm a chick with a dick, wanna fuck?" and then you bang her and go on your merry way. In my mind's eye that is a pure play on the fetish itself and I try to avoid that kind of simple pandering. I much prefer complex pandering.you wrote the scene really well imo even if i'm not a fan of the surprise factor. even with little content she's amongst your most interesting characters. what slightly bothers me, and this is meant as constructive criticism and i don't hold it against you as i can understand the why is that it is in fact fetishized. the fact that she's a character that can be turned on or off just because she's trans constitutes a fetish. if she was a character like every other that you can simply reject would be better imo. that's the difference between rejecting a character vs rejecting the whole concept.
but i really don't hold it against you and honestly i'm just happy you decided to include a trans character in your amazing game. also i guess this way we have Lita too so i shouldn't complain![]()
The intent I was trying to explain was that yes, she's here to satisfy a fetish, but she has do more than just that. She has to be a legitimate character with goals, a plot, a purpose and a personality.
But the reason for being able to turn her off as well as a number of other "kinks" is that some players are super sensitive about it. I won't lie, I stopped playing Big Brother after the whole Eric debacle. As someone who doesn't put up with shit in real life, I didn't like being forced to play a character who was powerless. I kept thinking to myself, "Punch him in the face and when he hits you back, tell your mother he tried to finger your butt hole!" But I digress....
Some people do like that sense of powerlessness though. Which is why with Nanami I try to give you the choice to take control, or be controlled. And as a writer, when I'm working on something that I don't have a personal taste for, but I manage to pull it off and it satisfies those who do, then I feel like my craft has gotten that much stronger and I feel like it's made me a better writer.
I'm really not into Trans stuff, but in designing Lola and writing her character, building her renders, and learning about who she is, I think it not only challenged my narrative ability, but probably made me a little more of an empathetic person in the process. I very much look forward to adding additional scenes for her when the time comes to tell the rest of her story.
