Think about it guys.
You have to be really gullible to support any project on Patreon. It goes double for something like supporting Gumdrop, but really, as a way to fund the development of games, the model is totally untenable.
You can buy a finished commercial quality VN for $10-$20.
If somebody was paying $20 monthly for three years (and stop pledging now), it adds up to $360 for beta versions of a game that's not even complete, and WON'T be complete with part X, since it's only the first act and there are two more to complete the story.
Seriously, no game is worth $360.
If you support a creator on Patreon, you don't do it for the game, you do it for the sake of a creator.

Here's a theory: Gumdrop is stalling Dual Family as long as possible while he's also making other games under a different name. He's now finishing them and has time to get back to DF. It's as good as any other theory so far and explains everything, lots of effort in the beginning, minimum effort later (even though we saw that he's perfectly able to make the game).

Gumdrop won't ever start working on this game again until enough of his supporters stop supporting him and he needs to start putting out content to make money again, but given how delusional his supporters are that won't be for a long, long time. After all, it's been well over 2 years with nothing and he's still making so much. And even then, who knows if he'll actually start working on the game again if his support ever does fall low enough because there's probably a good chance that he'll just let his patreon fall and start a new scam under a new name.

He didn't have to do anything to regain patrons last year and he didn't have to release anything to regain them this year. It was some time ago, but I went back to his posting history last year, and he didn't start panic posting to regain trust.

My impression is that his patron count doesn't influence his decisions. In fact, I don't think his patrons mind supporting him. There was a post I made here back in December or January where I listed his recent posts and comments/likes count for them. It was extremely low, like a complete lack

My bet is he keeps collecting his money without putting in any work, maybe he puts out a couple more updates one day to keep stringing his supporters along when his parteon falls low enough. Then when it's hard for him to keep getting his patrons back because even they started to realize he's a scammer, he'll just start a new game under a new name and do it all over again.

Unless he's already doing that, it wouldn't work out well now. Three years ago, Dual Family fit a very precise empty niche which has since become crowded, but is still unique enough that people believe in the idea of Dual Family.
I don't think a niche like this exists now.

Because he doesn't want to work, he just wants to make money. Completing this game and working on another one would actually require him to have to work for his money. He could probably make more money by actually putting in work, but when you have so much money you eventually reach a point where making more doesn't make you as happy. He's probably happier not working even if it means less money.

I don't know what sort of team he put together, but with his earnings, if he's comfortable having a team, he could have hired a developer, a CG artist and a copywriter and the game would write itself.

Giving him far too much credit....... didnt start out a scammer as he didnt know if it would take off but once the money started rolling in every action from that point was to secure as much money for as little work as possible. His months developing his website to take payments (should have taken days, actually hours to be honest), his long drawn out messages saying the release was soon, all done to keep people on the hook for as long as possible.

People financially supporting Cumdrop or not has nothing with criticizing his questionable ethics, and mishandling of the game. You think people found Dual Family on Youtube? or Facebook? No. The people supporting him are people that found the game through websites like F95Zone, and then move on to supporting if they like the game enough. I can attest to that, because I am one of them. You can go back in this thread 2 years, and you'll find me posting his pin-ups, and updates because I was once a $20 patreon backer.

I get your point though. Up to Part X Cumdrop was a... okay developer. I say okay, because even then he always had trouble meeting deadlines. If you weren't around for that Gumdrop, then you really don't know the half of it to be quite honest.

Another thing... when you support him, you're not paying for the game regardless. You're paying for perks like early access, and pin-ups, and bullshit. The game always had a free release.

Milking comes from "milk it for all its worth" meaning: To take full advantage of a situation. Gumdrop as you have stated already has something, the content and the subsequent cult gathered from chapters 1-9...... whether 10 is even developed yet doesn't really matter. People want Chapter 10 and by dragging this out for over 2 years he has therefore taken full advantage of the situation while completing the bare minimum of actual work. You don't necessarily have to be either a scammer or a milker, as Gumdrop has proven he can be both.

To be fair i think it was at least more positive than negative here right at the very beginning when he was releasing as planned, or at least close to it. It started to go down hill and continue that trajectory once the development of part 10 started to drag, with maybe a few disgruntled people after 8 & 9.

Now i dont understand the statement above about what might excuse him? How does F95 and the now disgruntled community here affect him producing his work? What about his own work ethic to produce a game for the people that have backed him, those that have given him what is now a substantial amount of money for nothing. Why does a pirate forum stop him producing this work? Straight up answer is it doesn't. He established monthly earnings of $10k a month all while F95 was here, and probably got some of that income from here, its where i personally found it and subbed however briefly. The reason he stopped is because he hit the jackpot, $10k+ a month for doing absolutely nothing with zero accountability to anyone.

As a group we never gave him money, and if any individual subscribed and dropped him a buck, that kinda makes it funny – you don't think he deserves his free money, but you give it to him anyway.

You're right about zero accountability, it's the Patreon model, you get money for no obligations whatsoever. But I don't know why Kyle stopped bothering. With that kind of revenue, I'd sure want to keep it.

@everyone So as you've probably noticed, it's the 24th of May as of this message, a day after the supposed release for Part X, so where is it you ask. It isn't done, to directly quote as to why it isn't: (You can read the rest in the post on Patreon or on Gumdropgames.net, there's other places you could read about it though aswell.) A lot of you were probably expecting this, a lot might not have been, it's a shame it hasn't been released but we're still here, only time will tell if it does release and you'll find out here if that's the case. If I was a psychology major, I'd schedule an interview with Abby and the other idiots to understand what's going on between their ears. It's easy to shill for a thing when you're being paid for it or see some other benefits, like the product itself. They are doing it for free and there hasn't even been a game for 2 years and counting. He's pissing in their mouths and they're fighting over who gets the last drop, what the fuck. This kind of zeal goes beyond just "sunk costs fallacy" and usually belongs with religious zealots. Or maybe it's just an extreme form of self loathing and they love being abused, that abuse being the only thing Scumdrop can reliably deliver.

They discovered Stockholm syndrome after observing some actual hostages, I'm sure there is a similar discovery waiting to be made here. Might earn someone a PhD.
