Question:
Would y'all rather get short, non picture, progress updates and questions (and give feedback) on Discord or here?

I feel like popping in here with "Hey, I solved a problem; things are going to look better" here is kind of like making a Tweater Twit. The only downside (to me) in moving to Discord is.....I don't really use discord. I kind of wait until someone mentions a Discord post before I go check. I'll kind of have to do it once the game is released to keep from getting perma-banned from my own F95 release thread for swearing at morons :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

So: Discord now - Yes or No?

Ok peeps, we're going to give this a try. Here is a Discord link that's going to be active for 7 days, that way only those of you who drop by regularly or anybody who wanders in and reads to the end will get a chance to see the train wreck that will be my server from the very beginning :ROFLMAO:



I'm going to be playing with layout and stuff for a bit. Don't be surpriised if it all gets thrown away and a different one set up.....several times...

I'm never on discord really, but people seem to expect it of developers and I guess it's like Tweater, a good place to drop a short Twit rather than here.

whenever an idea comes to mind put it down on paper or write it somehow! 90% of the time it will end up being shit on close inspection but 10% of the time bang what a gem! but you tend to forget good ideas real fast because your short term memory sucks ass, i know from personal experience! and very little is stored in your long term memory so!

I do keep a small notebook in my pocket and a pocket size pen, which usually works but......it's hard to use a pen and paper while hiking....

Damn math anyway! It keeps getting in the way of a good time. If I have 5 LI's and allow every combination of "solo" path through full harem - that's 120 possible combinations of endings. If I drop the number of LI's to 4 it drops to 24 possible permutations.

Y'all may have to live with "solo path" and "full harem" - I'm just that lazy (and I don't want to be working on my "intruductory" game in 2076

Or I could pull some trickery like Caribdis did at the end of Once in a Lifetime.... :unsure:
Not advocating plagiarism at all.....nope.....not me.....(opening up OiaL for reference)...

Jokes aparts both the solo path or the harem are good honestly, but don't beat yourself too much with lots of LI's, it's better having a few but well written and defined as characters than having lots of girls but forgetting more than half of them like it happen with some games, imho. :)

Ah!Ah! I know that, I mean one of the game in my sig is pretty informative about the fact that I'm worse than a kid in a candy store, if offered a choice of course I want all the candies!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
But on a more serious note, the big flaw I've seen in harem games is the time frame for every girls; the more there are the less time there is for everyone of them to be, not only romanced, but developed in a good way that's not "Hey we have an MC with a magic dick that make them fall for him".
I mean girls that have a distinct and defined personality that can be pursued romantically, plus convinced to share the MC after being in a relationship, this already a lot of work.
The games that solved this issue keeping a good balance are relatively few like Sisterly Lust, OIAL, Mythos, Long Road home, Sorcerer ( but this was already at the limits) and in all of them the solution was to keep the number of LI's limited ( and or inside a familiar circle or with a good reason for them to be kept together).
I mean it's good to have some side girls to have a distraction, but if you really want a good harem path I think limiting the main LI's is essential, at least when starting developing a game, you already wisely said.
Another thing I would take into consideration is to create a main LI, a girl that could work both in a solo but also in harem path, I think it's essential to have someone to be equal to the MC, imho is way more interesting.
But I think you already thought about all that, so sorry for the wall of text, can't really wait to see the final result so good work!:giggle:

I cut it down from 6-7 to 4, then realized one of the main characters that the MC will interact with (but was not meant to be a LI) was going to get " but why can't we have GirlX?" and "I want GirlX as my main girl" so I kind of had to add a path for her.

I may have to cut the LI's and add side characters (that can't be romanced or humped) to allow for some of the story progression.....but that leads to "but why can't we get GirlX as a LI?". The Dev of "Mythic Manor" had to add Iris as a LI since so many of us bitched and moaned when we found out she was just a side character :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The games you listed are some of the games that inspired me to try this. Eternum and Mythos are kind of my models for the harem path - lots of girls, but separate - not all moving in together. OiaL is the ultimate in "pick how many you want" with that ending, which is doable because it just requires graphics trickery; there is no real dialog or story with weird combinations.

Based on thinking about it and getting feedback, using where Eternum and Mythos are right now (I obviously don't know how they'll end) I think I may have a plan that is essentially "however many concurrent solo paths you want". Since I don't intend it to be a polygamous/polyamorous ending I think it's doable-(ish) and may make things a lot simpler......



.....and leave the door open for a sequel?:unsure:

Cool! I'm absolutely loving the premises of the future path of the game you're showing throught this post and... I can only say if i weren't already sold to it, this would have definitely did it, so as I said...Can't wait for more!! :giggle:

Adding a scene to the prologue. Prologue is getting long and may push back release, but it's going to be a much better setup for the game. Might even be good enough to get lots of attention, lots of Patrons and milk Patreon for a year or so ...... since that's what everyone thinks happens :rolleyes:

First part is true, second part is frustration with idiots about games with long development cycles.

I was worried that 100 renders would be kind of small for a first release (and was struggling to get there), but there are some really short demos out. When I decided to do a prologue, then chapters - I wanted the prologue to be one release. Later chapters will be chopped up into smaller releases (or multipart at least)

The scene I'm working on has 25 renders blocked out so far and I'm only about 25-30% done with it. This will probably be the most render intensive scene in the prologue. With 14 scenes (some just a few renders long) - its looking like my initial release will be between 350-500 renders. :eek::eek::eek:

I used to see Dev's post that an update was 1200 renders and I always wondered "How the HELL do they get 1200 renders in and update?" - now I know. If you want lots of words with static images sitting there it can be done with less. If you are a visual story teller - it takes lots of images as well as words; sometimes no words at all. I used to be a photographer, so the visual is a large part of what appeals to me. I have a feeling my render count will go towards the top end of my guess by the time I release it.

I'm going to block out all the renders for the entire prologue, then do low quality quick renders as place holders and then work on the core of the game and get it written and assembled. If that works I will start the lengthy, time consuming process of doing all the renders and inserting them into the game. This probably isn't the best way to work in the long run but it will give me a better idea of things now for the future.
