To me it feels like turning a potentially interesting & balanced game into a(nother) hollow (or shallow) single male harem jerk off fuckfest (of which there are dozens already).

Wishing the dev good luck though & let's see what Ch.2 / the next update will bring.

LongJumpingLion369 the Follow & Support Us links on your itch.io page are borked.
Agreed, the dev will need to make the relationships and/or the sci-fi elements top notch to keep the game interesting long-term. The novelty of hooking up with LIs will eventually fade and there will need to be something to replace the variety and source of potential tension that they are getting rid of. Luckily the other crewmates are fun and have their own conflicts, so as long as they expand on that it should be ok

Really weird for a dev to completely jettison their plans so quickly. Not a great sign for a creative endeavor to be so malleable, but if there is ever a time for huge changes it's best for it to be right at the start.

Also, since everyone seems to be giving their opinion, I'll never understand how many people go absolutely ballistic at any hint of there being more than one male character getting laid in a VN. I don't think I've ever self-identified with a porn game protagonist to the point where I would get upset by another fictional character getting some. How do people who feel like this watch regular porn videos that have more than 2 people in them? Do they ever play female protag games, and if they do, do they imagine themselves as the woman when doing so? I simply don't understand the mindset. Just like with movies, I can like characters and root for them, but no matter what I'm some extradimensional observer of the drama, it's never personal
To compare playing a avn to watching real porn is a fucking stupid argument.

To give context to those who still have doubts,

The developer announced the game as a "Sci-fi Space Harem Visual novel", which piqued the interest of harem players in the game, who asked if there would be any NTR content. The developer gave a vague answer, which made people suspect that the game would have NTR content, so they kept asking for confirmation. The developer responded harshly, which resulted in people being certain that the game would have NTR content. Seeing the negative reaction from all sides, he quickly responded that there would be no NTR content.

The developer himself said in his DISCORD that originally having men in the game was to make things more "realistic" and give the main character some competition, which would make the game have NTR content, and that he thought this competition would be fun. However, in the face of the negative reaction, he changed his mind, which only confirms that harem players' intuition was right, and if it weren't for the insistence on knowing about the content that would be in the game, the surprise would have been negative.

Not really. Competition doesn't automatically mean success. As long as they don't succeed, there's no NTR.
Other men could have been used as a threat, to add some tension to the narrative. But alas, the little people with the little egos came crying and made sure we get more of the same old power fantasy stuff. I'm not saying that can't have its appeal, but you get that everywhere, would have been nothing wrong with a bit variety.

You are correct that he could have said that they were to have some rivalry but that they will never actually succeed, but the cagey answer initially, anger, and the fact that devs do like to add ntr later on probably raised too many red flags.
Probably could avoided it if he said there will be no ntr or other guys having sex but there will be some rivalry in the narrative.

For initial release looks insanely awesome. I will closely follow the development of the game.

Regarding the decision to remove the additional male crew members, I believe it ultimately benefits the game. Initially, I was surprised by their introduction, but I appreciated the potential for developing interesting personalities and storylines. The MC could benefit from a guy friend to just "pal around" with, and take a break from chasing sex/relationship bs. As others have noted, the male crew in TFTUV – another great AVN! – serves this function, but a more well-known example would be Garrus in the Mass Effect trilogy (for example the legendary moment of shooting cans with him). This game definitely captures that Mass Effect vibe. That was the direction I foresaw: a platonic guy friend would be introduced to balance an overwhelming deluge of carnal thoughts and encounters. Meanwhile the other men would just get killed off, to build a sense of tension and danger.

However, high stakes can be set in other ways, and I don't think a ride-or-die bro is ultimately needed in this story. Echoes already has strong masculine characters like Talia and Amina (yes, those two are very attractive females...I'm just saying their primary interests are male). The MC can have some light-hearted and meaningless target practice alongside Talia, or explore the fascinating technical challenges of integrating AI and human biology with Amina. A new male companion isn't necessary to balance the story.

I also disagree with characterizing the feedback as a ‘knee-jerk reaction’ of fear regarding male competition. I believe many fans share a concern about project stagnation – that an overly complex narrative could lead to delays and ultimately, a stalled game. Focusing on a streamlined core is a smart move.

Hearing that the devs are now more focused and optimistic about the project is genuinely encouraging.

Stabby Mike is the best male friend any mc would need lol. He was the first i actually liked in a avn. If they had a npc like him in this then i would not mind. There when you need him and gone when you don't and no threat to harem.

Reposting only the review part

What an amazing first release. The backgrounds are amazing, the girls are beautiful and their expressions are top notch. Visually, a strong 9/10 all around, tooky way too many screenshots. The story is pretty good so far and the main character is likeable.

The girls are all very interesting and I have a couple favourites already. Looking forward to more.

This game is nice, I feel like the additional male characters in the end is going to be fodders for some kind of alien beast/xenomorph that they will fight later in the game.

How is that supposed to happen if they are being removed? Dev gonna kill them off 5s into the next episode?
