Yeah, I don't get it either. It's unsatisfying and immersion breaking. Usually I have to waste my time intentionally playing badly for a generic sex scene that tries to rub in the fact my character lost to an enemy for 5 minutes. And by the end of it, I feel like I wasted more time than I was willing to put in.

Iffy at best. It's kinda like Binding of Issac, without the randomness. I only did a few levels, but it's really just generic, with the issues of your arrows often hitting walls they shouldn't. You can even effectively clip the bow into the top wall, preventing any shots from actually working.

There is an audience and it is clearly not for you, so why even bother commenting? Game over sex exists for a reason; it is for submissive people and those who enjoy seeing a girl being dominated like that. For them it is satisfying and immersive, because losing is part of the appeal.

If they're going to reward losing with pron, then at least make losing part of the game loop. It only irritates me when losing is a chore you have to go out of your way for. It's often easier to just beat the game real quick and unlock the embedded video player.

Or award winning with more pron too, scenes that differ from when the player character loses. So if you win certain situations, you get scenes A, B, C (perhaps later on in the game, not immediately after) but if you lose the same fights, you get scenes D, E, and F (again, maybe later on in the 'story'). But maybe that's too much to ask for from the average adult game developer.

I didn't say Game Over Rape/Rape-on-Loss itself is bad or undesirable, I'm saying that it rarely happens organically. Like I don't mind games that are designed to be hard enough that GOR/RoL happens. But what I usually end up seeing are games that require you to intentionally lose to easy fights, which is the part that feels unsatisfactory and immersion-breaking.

Edit: Like in Femdom games, even when the girls look great, winning usually requires a bit of conscious effort. When you lose and the dom starts insulting you and shit, it feels deserved. But when it comes to female protags, the guys doing the raping usually have neither looks, power, or wit going for them. It almost feels like I'm pitying them when I throw the heroine at them, and that sense of pity ruins the illusion of submission and humiliation.

It has long been my belief this is in order to make audience self-insertion easier, much like those featureless lukewarm tapioca VN protags entirely devoid of meaningful characterisation beyond a checklist of boilerplate cliches.

Which really just says something about what creators tend to think of their audience... as does the fact said audience keeps eating up this implicit insult.

I think the ideal is to interact with sexual violence as we do in games with 'normal' violence. That's actually hard though. At a minimum is reasonably reachable fail conditions, which imo are the base for any game, H or not. Even though I framed it as such, it's not so much of a reward issue as much as it's a bad game issue.

This is all a bit off topic though, elven escape is actually kind of fun. Since it's an early access, it's hard to tell what direction the game is going to go in, but if it gets animated bad ends, slightly more sadistic level design (as in design to irritate and trap the player) and some more variety then I think it could end up being quite good. But with a November expected release date, it seems unlikely that it'll improve much.

Yes this is the tricky part about this type of games, the difficulty must be well balanced. Many H-on-lose games are very poorly designed (like the one in this thread) and the game sucks but it's not because it's H-on-lose, it's because the author is incompetent. There are also H-on-win which suck because the difficulty is not well balanced.

If you want to try some really good rape-on-lose games, examples are the Koonsoft series (Angel Girl X, Shinobi Girl, etc.), Hailey Treasure Adventure, Captivity. These games have almost only positive ratings.
