OK, I'm feeling a bit reflective atm, so here goes.
First off, yeah the 80th Anniversary of D-Day thing... I did a nod of sorts this morning, using one of my cosplay themes that should look familiar to people following this thread.
I had a few close family members (older than me of course) that served in both theatres during that time. They didn't talk about it a lot afterwords, those were dark times. Still, many owe their current privelege and way of life to the efforts made back then, and honoring the sacrifice of those that died to protect freedom and such is important.
One of my neighbors served back then (he's almost 100 years old), and we talked briefly about his WWII military service today. He's a pretty upbeat guy and we have plenty of other things to talk about (how our town has changed over the years, the weather, etc.), but it's good to take a moment every now and then to remember those that are no longer with us with those that may remember a few of them.
But, keep in mind that out of darkness, beauty can spring forth. Most people won't know Edgar Froese, but he was born on June 6th 1944 in East Prussia (now Russia, near Kaliningrad), and he and his family moved to Berlin not too long after the end of WWII.
Anyways, Edgar Froese would eventually form Tangerine Dream, some band I like to listen to from back in the day (late 1960s onward).
Here's a collection of some of Edgar's music from his various projects/collaborations, for those that like 'ambient space music'...

Edgar passed in 2015, leaving a rather impressive body of work behind. So if such things interest you, maybe keep Edgar in the back of your mind, as well as those others from the 'Greatest Generation' as well as the 'Silent Generation' that endured WWII, as well as those who died...
Anyways, just some random musing I felt the need to share!

Still slowly plugging away at the next FmF short story. Mostly fighting writers block atm., some things I just need to be in the right mood for. Back to it!
