Update - 25 September 2025

Hey all - just a little infrequent update here to let you know I'm still alive! I had a good amount of work done in July and was all ready to brag about it, and then the last week or so of July up until now kicked my butt with no room for game work.

The good news is that I'm in a pretty good place mentally and everything is going well - it's just been very busy and we just got back from a long trip (which was actually quite nice!)

Now, the real good news...

My wife agreed to let me get another 4090, which I'm hoping can get me over the hump in terms of how brutal it is to stage and preview all of these images (and later render them). I don't know if it's my undiagnosed ADHD or what, but this entire block of scenes drives me nuts no mater how much I optimize it because they take soooo long. But, with her blessing, I'm throwing money at the problem to make it better. I have seen positive reports from other devs doing similar investment in a second GPU.

And for those who aren't aware: I would've LOVED to get a 5090 instead. But Daz/Iray crappily enough doesn't fully support the 5090 - although I hear it's improved since launch (with a semi-compatible alpha version). So, I am using the 4090 which I know works... even though I think I could've gotten a comparable 5090 for the price (ugh). The VRAM shouldn't be an impact, at least, as these scenes already fit fully in-memory on the 4090.

So, with any luck, I'll be working a little faster when time allows. As usual, my apologies that things are taking FOREVER - but I'll be keeping payments off until it's ready and I'll have the game in your hands as soon as I can! (even if it may not be until next year or so... I'll keep you posted)

Thanks as always for continuing to care. I hope you all have a wonderful day/week/month ahead!

Quick Check In - 26 October 2025

Hi everyone, hope you've been well!

I wanted to give a quick check-in, since things were promising last time out. The tl;dr is that not much has changed and I should stop being optimistic.

The second 4090 didn't do much for this scene. I was kind of gobsmacked. I fiddled with optimization and not much there either. I imagine it's just too large and too dark. And the frustrations just keep killing me because I really only get 30 minutes here and there to try anything these days and previews take up way too much of that span.

So I'm going to go another route and do a little re-writing to get us out of this environment and into a manageable one. After a lot of thought, I have it in my head on how I can make it happen, so I just need to get to it. There are still some scenes outdoors that we'll need to finish first, so I'm still stuck in that quagmire a bit longer, but I see a path out.

The other thing is that the last two months have just been... chaotic... at home. Shortly after my big 4090 purchase, my wife lost her job and we've been trying to figure out what to do with all of that. We're pretty well set, so we shouldn't be in any trouble any time soon, but it's still stressful and I feel like there's a new wrinkle to it every day. My day job's also been up and down (mostly up) in its demands, but as the (for now) breadwinner, I feel some more pressure to put a lot of focus there and make sure we keep the bills paid.

So like I said, not much has changed over all. I'll work on rewrites (which will mostly just move the existing action to a new location) and scenes as I can. Billing stays off, as it has.

So what's the future look like? This update will get out there eventually. It's going to take a long time and it'll be ready when it's ready. It'll wind up being much smaller than any of us would like for how long it's taking, but it'll take us to the end of day 4.

In light of how long a lot of this is taking these days, I'm also looking at some ways to streamline the experience toward the end of the game. I've had the endings in mind since day one and I want to see the game realized as a whole. There might be some opportunity for me to do that, then expand some sections around it after it's out - sort of like a DLC. I'd rather have it ready all at once, but this is a consideration to try and just get there. Ideally, there's still a full day 5 before the endings, though, so while it's on my mind, it's a world's worth of work away.

And that's it. Cards on the table as usual. I'll pop in to pause things again before the 29th and will check the channels as I usually do. When there's something new, I'll let you know. Thanks for caring.

I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season!

I have a little time off from work, but most of it is being taken up by home renovations and eventually moving (next year). So we'll see if I get a little time and inspiration to put into the game. So as it is, I was able to spend some time (more than I would've liked!) putting together the little image/video shown here.

Mostly I wanted to put out some happy Christmas vibes, but also test a little bit of what AI would do with an image and simple prompt. It's still getting better, but it looks best in these brief animation cases. I imagine we'll all see it more and more in this space, but I don't really anticipate moving the game toward this style. It's faster and more fluid, sure, but I like animating and I'd like to keep things consistent. Maybe in something in the future, I'd consider it. AI will probably run all of our lives by then!

In my personal life, my wife may have a job nailed down and my work has stayed busy (and will get busier next year). So all of that and the reno/moving will keep me busy, but I imagine I'll have time at some point. As usual, billing will remain off - I'm just letting you know I'm not dead and that I appreciate you checking in!

Have a great holiday everyone! See you in the new year!
