As the dev was trying something new and experimenting, I would personally say it's adequate. Things have to be tested out. Best case is lessons learned help ship future updates faster.

The person writes that the dev will learn how to make updates faster in the future, although before that we received updates every 4+ months and could enjoy at least two new updates during this period... but...
