Can you guys play the youtube clip from the dev log? It says it's unable to play because the account has been closed for me.

The Update-wait is killing me, but that'll be a hell of a gift.
Just a shot in the dark, but I'm trusting Cari that if it's indeed a minigame, it'll be actually a meaningful one... But after all I'm also hoping for some additional art (maybe server with some totally different graphics like the cartoon one, so Cari can outsource creating these renders to somebody else without breaking the main art style), or some QOL, like Donrf's idea of animated ship/map.
Good thing Cari commissioned it, so whatever it is, it won't slow him down and absorb the time he's spending on the actual game/main plot etc, so we don't have to worry about splitting the work on the game (and Cari's energy) between meaningful parts and some extra 50/50 needed stuff (like in BaDIK, where there's a new "great" minigame around every corner...)

I assume stuff like the voice diaries (for the Alien-inspired section), Nova's manga and graphics for the fable were commissioned. So I'd expect it to be something in that vein.
Something like this...Handrawn ship movement animation on map whenever we choose a location during the New World server event.

In a perfect world, updates would come every 1-2 months, like with Tell Tale Games. That way, things stay fresh without getting boring. But with small teams, often just one person, that’s just not realistic. I think it’s just an inevitable situation, that you forget stories or even games, or rather wait until something is finished or had enough updates for a couple of days playtime unless you are superfan and replay it anyways each update or have elite level memory. Waiting a year for just two hours of story doesn’t seem worth it. Still, a lot of these visual novels are passion projects, and if I had the skills for writing and design, I wouldn’t want to hand that off either. Discovering a new VN is great, and Eternum is messing up my sleep schedule since two weeks, but I already know that it won’t be finished in the next two years.

It's completely unrealistic.
Most AVNs do not earn enough to be any more than a hobby. There are probably only 2 (Summertime Saga, and Being a DIK) that actually earn enough to have anything more than one or two guys working on it - and you'd need a team of 10+ to have meaningful updates every 2-3 months. Fuck, even big MMOs with hundreds of staff struggle to produce a couple of hours of story content in 4-5 months patch cycles.
