Guess I'll give it a shot again. There were VNs that took me several tries to get into and they are some of my favs now.
The introduction to the VR game is a bit too long, but the pacing gets much better. However, if you really don't care for the whole metaverse aspect of the story, then the game is not for you. It's like asking you to appreciate Back to the Future if you don't enjoy time travel.

If you've never played a Caribdis game his previous one Once in a Lifetime is a good starting point to take a look at his writing style and game pacing, without the VR stuff. If you have played that already I can't imagine why you would ask the initial question.

Funny because I thought the pacing in this game is miles better compared to OIAL where the story doesn't really pick up until Asmodeus enters the picture and the chapters before that are basically barebones plot with too much SoL stuff and needless qui-

Sure Eternum is miles better in terms of pacing and quality but it's the story subject he has a problem with and OIAL is the closest thing I guess.

I'm not saying it's bad, there are multiple 4.5+ games that stumble from scene to scene instead of having a plot, and Eternum is head and shoulders above them even in episode 1, which ends on a cliffhanger that sets the main story rolling, but compared to subsequent episodes the first one is a bit rambling.

It's not surpising, since it had to do a lot of things: showcase Orion's life before Eternum, introduce the cast, do an exposition on Eternum, show how Orion obtained the implant, showcase his first experience in Eternum, get the main plot going and finally sneak in a sex scene because it's an AVN.

That's a lot, so it's understandable that some people get tired of listening to people talk about Eternum at school, then listening to Idriel talk about the gems and the weapons, then listening to Annie talk about Eternum some more, then listening to Chop-Chop, then listening to Eva, then there's a cliffhanger. They see all these hot ladies and are itching to get to know them better instead of learning about a game inside a game.

As opposed to OIAL where the SoA was just infodumped at the very last part of 0.1 and the update ends with the MC opening the door to his father's basement. There wasn't any establishing connection to his dad and SoA other than a circumstantial event that may not even be connected to SoA, while 90% of the update was about the MC's daily life and being introduced as a failing college student who's trying to get his shit together. You can basically cut that and start at the latter parts of the update and nothing of value would've been lost.

Eternum 0.1 was mainly set-up, but you didn't have to wait until 0.2 to get to the actual VRMMO and to understand that the main story revolves around the entire thing. Even the mysterious supernatural shenanigans and rival BBEG (coughThanatoscough) were already thrown in while in OIAL you don't even meet the bad guys nor witness the supernatural shit until 0.2 (and even the latter never really factored into the story until the very end where the idea was basically MC dreams of demons because he himself is part demon).

Hey everyone, loving this game so much, especially the lamborghini scene with Penny. Got a question, my MC gets shot in the back by the alley bully, the dies and it tells me the update is over, can anyone tell me if it is actually the end of last update? Is there any hidden ending i didnt achieve or something?

It would be weird if Cari's second game had worse writing than his debut. You can see the quality of writing improve even within Eternum, from 0.1 to 0.8.

Hence the point of my posts being that Eternum's writing and pacing and incorporation of the metaplot to the background fluff making everything feel connected are a massive improvement and (most importantly) the result of feedback towards OIAL's writing and pacing flaws where there's a miniscule amount of plot and intrigue and ridiculous amounts of pointless fluff (though I suppose that could be squarely blamed on the fact that OIAL does not have a general outline to begin with, resulting in the VN being guided mainly by Cari's starting idea and him just making things up as he went).

Im a sucker for the whole "hard exterior, soft interior" character
Same what i also like about her is the fact she isn't one of the ones who stay mean to hide her feelings. The minute she shes ur cool not talking to her to get closer to her family or just looking to fuck. She opens up to you pretty easily
