damn...i nearly forgot all about the story af ter so many months from last update...can't belive how slow devs are these days...luckly not all of them are that way, but sadly the slow\milker ones are the majority
I agree with you mate, why don't you start a VN game with a storyline like this or as interesting as this one and release every month or two. 1500+ renders all with details and professional touch.. I am sure the community will be so happy.

I see a lot of complaints about this on the site but not every dev who takes a while is milking it. The standard for porn games, especially visual novels, has increased dramatically. Visuals, story, writing, audio, animation, you name it. Games take longer because, if you want an audience, you have to put in a lot more legwork. That, or cater to an extremely niche audience who will pay diligently even if there's not a whole lot of them. And remember, most AVN devs work solo.

That's not to say there aren't milkers out there. There absolutely are. But length of development time isn't the best way to sniff them out. It's the contrast between time taken, content produced, details provided and consistency of milestones. Caribdis has been able to put out extremely high quality work in every update, rarely ever had major delays, and been pretty up front about progress when making community announcements. I think if anyone's earned grace, it's him.
Yeah, they thinks it's easy af to write a story and do the rendering work. Even choosing the perfect dialogues takes hours.

This is one of the few games on this site where the time taken to put out an update is worth the wait.

I saw someone comments about forgetting about the story and essentially accusing Cari of milking supporters...

For anyone reading this, that is NOT the case. Cari puts out regular updates and is honest upfront how long they take. And they are WORTH the wait.

People make poke fun at the time between updates here, but if you read the posts, with very few exceptions, it's all in good fun. Those of us that have followed this project for some time understand why these updates take time - they come with a lot of content, and they're just GOOD.

So please, those who are new to this thread and wonder at the length of time between updates - know that there is a good reason behind it: When the updates finally drop, they are well-done, rarely with any bugs (I have yet to experience one), and just SOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

And I can add a simple point, even if caribdis would actually milk by increasing dev time,he's a one of a few devs with a great income who actually moves through the story without dozens of empty filler updates as some of actual milkers do,and actually wants to finish the game

This guy thinks he is experiencing Eternum withdrawals, but he doesn't know the meaning of the word like we do.
I feel like it's gonna hit hard for me when I finally get thru what there is of the game and what's to come in the next update. Currently around halfway thru after playing it just this year, but not at all during the summer (was kinda hard to force such a long break on myself but i got thru it somehow lol). Luckily it's still fresh on my memory despite the 3 or 4 months I've taken away from it. I remember I was just about to leave from the trip, I just have to go downstairs and that's all. that's where I stopped, a bit of a cliffhanger but not that bad. Just didn't go all the way thru that arc. And I'm gonna take my time as I get back into it, aiming to finish off wherever the new update comes out. Whether that's around the holidays or February next year, since there's no way to know 100%. And I'll probably play through the next update over the course of a few months again up to summer next year. Then I play the real waiting game. But patience is my strong suit and I have PLENTY of things across all of my hobbies and other things to keep me occupied, so I'm not even stressed or worried like even a sliver. I'm sure it must be harder for those who've been playing for much longer or even since the beginning like when OIAL was just finished. Or maybe not since you get used to the wait? IDK haha.

My god, the music restoration mod is an absolute necessity for this game to really be complete. One of the best aspects of the game was how perfectly the music fit every single one of the scenes. Playing it without the original tracks just wasnt the same.
I've wondered about this. So I know people have made playlists with the original songs and tracks on youtube, I did actually save those. yet to listen to them. And there is the restoration mod. And while I feel like it'd be cool to experience it with the original OST that it had, my dilemma is this: Doesn't it clash with other mods? The phone and walkthrough mod(s) I'm using now, I think one or the other said they don't work with other mods outside of each other. And then there's the next updates, and I don't wanna mess things up, I'm worried about compatibility there. And tbh, I know there's bias on both sides, but I haven't really had any issues with the game's bgm up to this point, and the vocal songs during scenes fit really well imo. It's unfortunate what happened and caused the changes to be made, but they seem to have handled it quite well, taking it in strides and being able to roll with the punches. Very gracefully. I do understand though. Like, you played this game and experienced it a certain way for YEARS with certain tracks, then later on, they got taken away for copyright and the game changed, thus changing any experiences you'll have of it in the future. I'd be pretty upset too, and most likely would be using a restoration mod as well if I was around for the game much earlier. I would try a separate version of the game in another folder entirely, with the restoration mod, but it's just like, it would take up more space on my computer, that I need tbh. And I also don't want to get rid of the saves I have, or change anything in terms of mods on it. I will maybe just listen to that playlist once I finish playin thru 0.9. I went with the one I did when I first got the game (0.8.6) because it's a change that's going to be in every future update til the game is finished, and it's better to just stick with the official releases for me personally. That's my logic.

Foreal, dude SAME. I love how bug-free this game is. I've experienced zero bugs or glitches, and for a game this huge, you'd expect several to be present. Because of how smooth the experience is in the game now with all the content it has, I think it goes without saying that bugs/glitches that may pop up in the future update(s), we'll be super easygoing and forgiving. Plus, they must do extensive testing, so I doubt anything game-breaking would occur anyways. Between this and the thought and care put into dialogue, they deserve all the kudoses in the world. The english professor in me rarely ever triggered when I played it, and that is saying a lot!

THIS. I don't have any reason to suspect any milking, but god yes on the empty filler updates, you hit the nail on the head. A lot of games are definitely milking, putting out nothing burger updates as frequently as possible, asking for as much money as possible, like drip-feeding content, and you can tell just by looking at them, they plan on keeping that up till kingdom come, and never giving a resolution to the story, or lack thereof. And some of them need to have their services shut down, and find another job. I hear McDonald's is hiring! xD wal-mart too! And those are valid and respectable jobs too :) they put food on the table and pay the bills, so.. I'm not dissing anyone who works there, I'm just saying haha. They're very accessible jobs that don't require a ton of training, higher education or trade skills, and a good place to start for anyone, or while waiting for a better job; one more suited to the individual.

I'm rambling atp xD lemme stop myself

As far as I can tell, there shouldn't be any significant interference with other mods becaue the only thing the mod changes are the tracks in the music folder. Don't hold me to that because I could be wrong but as far as I am aware it shouldnt interfere with much. You summed up how I feel about it pretty well. I have played the game for a long time before the music overhaul and I have played the game with the new music overhaul. There is no comparison. The origional tracks just hit different. I was going to say that you should play the game with the music mod but honestly it may be best if you don't. It would in all likelyhood ruin the new tracks for you if you experienced the origional soudtrack. I don't feel like I am exagerating much when I say that the origional soundtrack combined with the scenes they accompanied are what really drew me to the game in the first place. No other game I had ever played or still have ever played managed to so perfectly match the scenes with the background music. Anyway, I digress. I highly recommend the music mod over any other mod for the game. Play it if you dare!

I'm happy for yall that had that glorious experience, and it's one of the many elements that did the same thing for others as it did you, increasing the fanbase exponentially
and.. YKW. What you said makes me want to try it. Instead of just listening to a playlist that I have no investment in atm, where my heart isn't really in it. Once I finish the game's official release, I'll make sure I have space and use the music restoration mod for another playthrough from a separate folder like I said. So I can have both. I'm confident it won't ruin it for me with the other one, but rather they'd be different experiences. Thanks for your response mate :)

Started the game yesterday. I'm still in the early stages, Orion just logged into Eternum with Annie. The presentation is freaking top notch I must say. Makes sense given the time between updates, the dev really be making sure we get a polished product.
Question for those who are caught up – how long would you say the game is atm? For reference I'm currently with Annir and Kitty right after being gifted a sword and some Eternum currency. What completion percentage would yall say that is?

I think the reason is because of how fast updates were for earlier versions of eternum and especially once in a lifetime. Earlier versions (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 etc) wouldnt take more than 3-4 months. Updates for Once in a lifetime were churned even faster. Its obviously taking longer here because the quality has noticably increased and it is easy to see that it has. But I do think there is a point of diminishing returns where past a certain point trying to make improvements will not be as noticeable as before but will take an incredibly long time.

I will continue to support until the end of the year. But after that I plan on stopping my pledge. Imo while we have improved a lot since version 0.3/0.4, the increase in development time the improvements have cost arent worth the extra wait time for me. But thats just me and my opinion is not a popular one. Clearly a lot of people think that extra effort is worth it and the game's support only continues to grow. The game has such a massive number of patrons for a very good reason. But the longer update time + the already massive support base makes me feel like my money will be better spent supporting other smaller devs that dont have such a large number of patrons instead. If I felt like the game was at risk of being abandoned due to lack of support I'd continue supporting even with the time increase. But support has skyrocketed from the once in a lifetime days and I think its future is secure at this point.

I can't quite say, but you're still very early in the game. If you think the presentation is good now, just wait til you get to the more recent content.

.
You are at like 5%, of the current game don't worry. ;)
I will Envy the people who will pick up this game, when its fully finished, and that will be their first.
I remember I was first played it when it was 0.2 version or 2 episode had, and then I kind of forget about it , until 0.4, that is when I retunrned, after I saw some Sneak peek of Dalia at her Competititon. and remembered at the game.
So I started again from the beggining, it was awesome. and I'm here ever since.

You, you are are gonna have such a blast with it. Starting from episode 1 till the current episode 8 . Damn, I envy you (y)

Ah, I'm glad I missed all the fuss and whining from Indio... :HideThePain:
as Padorublad3 said, don't pay attention, this user writes nonsense and similar whining every couple of days in different threads!

I've never forgotten one ridiculous moment from him when he wrote a similar comment in another VN, while Dev wrote a report progress on the two comments above!!! it was funny.

Others have answered this already, but I'll be a third person saying the same thing. You're at most like 5% through the game so far. There is SO much awesome ahead of you.

And that's totally understandable. Most players aren't going to give long term funding to a project that only updates once a year. I myself don't usually subscribe to most devs until release dates are announced because I simply can't afford to give so much money year round.

There is a significant difference, however, between complaints about long dev times and accusations of milking. One is a product of ever increasing standards in this industry - standards which Cari himself had a major hand in raising - and one is a malicious act to suck money from fans beyond what is reasonable or justified for the return product. It just frustrates me that people, especially ones likely have never given to a dev in their life, spend so much time accusing devs of it even when they consistently pump out amazing work and provide accurate updates during production.

It's sad that the game widely considered to be the best AVN of all time can still attract these creeps, even well after proving that, while its updates take a whlle, it's worth every day of the wait. I know it's human nature to be an asshole, but it's still just disappointing. Hopefully by the time the next part comes out they'll shut up for a bit so we can all have fun talking about the game we love.

Not even my top 30 lol.

If you use that argument...Batman really is one of the best 10 films of all time (huge lol)...and the Toyota Yaris is one of the best cars in the world (bigger lol).
And that's lovely for you. My statement had nothing to do with my personal opinion, or any one individual person. It's about the consistent top ratings. Even anyone who, for whatever reason, hates this game would still have to admit that it's one of the most loved in the genre.
