Cari has already argued against this (at least when it comes to Nan's POV) back in 0.7 tho. Hard to panic and shit when the person who's supposed to have been shot basically looks fine.
Compare that to this update where the girls really experienced Orion disappearing on them and not knowing where he is, and it becomes understandable why they're panicking NOW unlike before where they only have a second hand account of him getting shot AFTER he got healed by Caly (tho obviously Nova is a different case since she panics quite a lot and obviously being accidentally brought to Eternum didn't help matters).
Orion getting a ranged weapon like a crossbow has been a requested thing on Cari's Discord for a while now (especially given the story parallels to his mythological namesake). I mean, sure it's a longbow and not a crossbow but yeah...close enough.
I dunno, in the grand scheme of things I feel like the update is warranted given that the previous update was mainly focused on Eternum stuff so this update partially being a downtime chapter makes sense (not to mention the Christmas event kept being postponed due to story stuff and Luna's date was at least foreshadowed in the previous update).
On the other hand, yeah I suppose I too was disappointed with the Hyril'ar arc, but mainly because I felt the lore we got there wasn't enough...tho I felt it confirmed some things that I've long been suspecting about the story but haven't jotted down in this thread just yet.

I don't think that's what the guy you're quoting meant... In 0.8 we only got the reaction from 2 girls. Nova and Nancy. Then we got a time skip. In 0.9 we saw how ALL the girls reacted and they all stayed in character.
Nova freaked out again
Nancy stayed calm and collected even tho she started to crack under the pressure
Dalia and Alex channeled their feelings towards anger and took it out on those poor people in Ekabar.
Penny mirrored her Mom a bit because they are similar.
Annie cried, ALOT
and finally Luna put on a brave face because that's what she has done her whole life.
The other thing different from earlier episodes (and games) was how the sisters (Dalia and Penny in this case) dealt with realizing they both had sex with Orion/MC.
I mean this whole episode was amped up to 11 when it came to emotional scenes. More than any other episode Caribdis has ever made. His previous way of dealing with stuff like this has been to either have the characters joke it away, do a time jump or just handwave it away because he wants his games to be light-hearted fun.
0.8 was the start of this new style but 0.9 brought it to a whole new level and I'm personally loving it. I think it was the one thing Caribdis was missing from his repertoire up until now. This bodes well for his 3rd game too.

So 0.9 review stats:
1. Story arc: 9/10
2. Music: 7/10
3. Sex scenes: 7/10
4. Calypso and Penny: 10/10
5. End climax: 7/10
Overall I give it a 8.0/10. Not the weakest nor the strongest update but still up there in top 3 updates to this game. I appreciate that the end climax was not some too much of a cliffhanger but it certainly means that the lives of the girls maybe in danger and MC got to help them out. The only criticism: Elven story could have been trimmed and instead we got an adventure inside eternum. TBH, there was actually NO-ETERNUM in this update which is kinda funny for a game bearing the name.

Just saying that last time it wasn't really that serious from the girls' POV, so us not seeing the intended reaction of Orion getting shot makes sense as opposed to him missing for few days in a row where they did experience it.
Plus Orion kicking the bucket was supposed to be the cliffhanger for 0.8 (as mentioned by Cari on Discord), but was moved to 0.7 likely to have something to cut the New World event in two due to being bloated and also to have a reason for Orion's powers to level up. So the girl's reaction to Orion missing and being presumed dead being a lot heavier is likely a leftover from that (since the witnesses will likely mention that Orion was cut down by Thanny before Caly's explosion sent them to Hyril'ar).

is it fan made theory or it's revealed in the game? although it's understandable because once a time people could also travel to Hyril'ar which is how that mysterious man who freed anima went there and up until this point it's known that Chop Chop is one of the syndicates.
Maybe i have to replay the 0.9 i still don't understand who are the Ancients.

Sure, hearing that the person you love has just gotten shot is no big deal at all. Obviously they wouldn't have reacted as strongly as they did to Orion going missing but that's not the point. Only a person like William Bardot wouldn't care either way. But these girls aren't psychopaths.
The point however is that we didn't see the other girl's reactions at all in 0.8. Saying it's because their reactions wouldn't be a that serious... I mean I cant even
