Yeah. My personal hunch would be Lorelei - if Calypso was expected to be more involved from an earlier point in the game, it's likely we would've met her sooner, and of the possible suspects she seems the most involved with the story.We'll likely never know unless Cari makes a post-mortem QnA of Eternum and someone asks him there who the 9th main LI that got axed was.
It did not though. Her point tracking was implemented since 0.4. Her appearance was the cliffhanger in 0.2. So 0.3 was the only update where we did not get any points for her. Her point system was just hidden from players. If you look at the code there is a "calypso_interest" variable (which functions the same as points) in 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8. This value is converted to "calypso_points" in 0.9.
My guess is the variable was named differently because calypso was intended to be a hidden LI where the reveal happens as a surprise. So I think the dev did not want to use the "_point" variable to prevent stuff like adding the heartbeat thing by mistake.
No there were 8 in 0.2 (which was when the gallery was first implemented). At the start of 0.2 six slots were filled. 7th slot was meant for nova and 8th for calypso (calypso was not filled because her appearance was the cliffhanger). In 0.3 caribdis removed the 8th slot but it seems like after 0.3 he changed his mind because starting 0.4, calypso gets her own point variable in the code.
The 9 LI thing was a random discord comment either around the time 0.1 was released or before that. This was changed to 8 pretty early on.

Yeah, I just misremembered the original number from a recent conversation here. It was 8 but I'd remembered it as 9 because of the original layout of the stat screen being two rows of seemingly even size.

While you're right about 8 slots being there (plus one for Others/Side Girls), the gallery was already implemented in 0.1, not 0.2.
I am not sure if there was 9th one. Possibly the dev decided to combine Caly and Others into one, to hide Caly as secret love interest, due to her initial introduction as NPC. The reversed question mark, if it was her spot, was going to out her being real rather than AI early in the story. The one right next to Alex was Nova. The last was that was Others, assuming the reverse ? was Caly was going to Eva once more.
As for potential 9th love interest, there aren't too many options. Charlote possibly to get info from Axel but now we are doing with him instead. Eva due to her dialogue about "what is real" and "prefering Eternum over the normal world" could have had her own story arc revolving having even bad family life / situation irl but then Alex has the same arc. Eva seem the most likely one, to be honest. Matt, she apperead in 0.3, so it's possible that there were bigger plans for her that were revolked because it didn't make sense for Orion and Nova to be nice to her after what she did. Matt, unlike Eva, returned for something beside gag and seem to have relavence to the story, the option to give her money being required for perfect run.

I think I've done my job. Theories that Idriel is Orion's daughter or that Orion cucked himself - kudos to you guys, that's even more fucked up than what I was thinking. Although I still like the theory that the whole situation on Andromeda was caused by Thanatos jerking off there the most.

Finished the new update last night. What a joy is to play Eternum! Sure, the story didn't advance much but the plot has never been a strength of this game. What this update had a lot of was charming interactionswith unique characters, plenty of throwbacks and an increased and fun gameplay experience.
Loved the contest for Callypso's hand (even though I' don't know if didn't get the music right, maybe that's the point), the quirky "let's see how many times you can chop wood thinking there's a prize in the end", and the card game and so many other moments that could have been resolved without our input in other games. It's Caribdis ability to charm but also to bring more to the game than ever before that it's a huge hook for most of his players. Great update, hope the new one comes out this year!

They should talk with that guy Although, actually, I found undeniable proof of Nancy's guilt, and on top of that, her own daughter ratted her out. I must have missed it while playing before, but when I started the game again, I was able to confirm my suspicions.
