Nope. Criticism is always valid. Just be careful about how you phrase it. You totally have the right to be disappointed with a game.
We are on a pirate website.
We are all beggars. Not a fan of being harsh on something you stole.
I believe you can be far harsher on something you paid for or supported.
In this case, the game is free, so I am grateful for what I am given.
The only concern I can understand here is having been misled by the title. Yes, the game varies quite a bit from the original, so I can understand some people's disappointment.
I rest my case here. Don't want to flood the thread with more flame.
I hope we can agree on this.

Its a hold over from the original version. I have to admit I enjoyed the ability to play the PC as different sex/gender/sexuality and to mess about changing them to unlock different things but it added a lot more work supporting these options so it was streamlined when spectre1viper was running things.

Continuation of a previous project, there were other options but they were buggy as hell and tonally different as the game setting is written as hetero cis male being the right and dominating choice and any other combo increasingly wrong and increasingly forced submissive.

This game have a lot of potential but also need a lot of work and we can only hope some devs will continue the job and clearly decide the way they want to impulse and consolidate, RPG/Sandbox or Visual Novel, avoiding the newcomers to be frustated seeing the difference between the description and the content.

There isn't. These options were removed in a previous release. Make sure you are using the latest version of the game.
Follow the installation instructions on the OP and install the game in this order:
Evil 2 - 0.55 Beta (base game)
Evil 2 - 0.59 (required update)
Evil 2 - 0.64 (required update)

Technically you can play the game anyway you'd like Strec. The visual novel style events and stories are optional. Yes, you'll miss out on a few things but nothing that prevents you from playing a sandbox only game.
In order to make some of the events and stories in the game make sense, requirements were added. It is difficult to write events and stories without assuming a few things about the MC. An MC who can be anything to anyone is nearly impossible to write for.
You've already expressed your disappointments with the game more than once Stec. I encourage you to be a positive influence here.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I feel like at some point the game changes direction.
You start as a nobody, struggling to survive. Then after working a few odd jobs you'll start getting into whores and drug dealers and then drug mules and your car stealing/robbery gang.
However, once you get to factories/businesses everything else pales in terms of effort per income.
And you will need that income to get into the lategame without massive amounts of grinding (which you have already been doing lots of).
Then once you have hit all the triggers, the game kind of goes into VN mode to be honest.
So a lot of content is gated behind having everything else unlocked, which you will only reasonably archieve with cheats or properties.
It feels a bit like the game gets an identity crisis where in the "endgame" it goes from a sandbox game to a KN.
Personally for the future I'd prefer "more things to do" over getting shown a story about your MC instead of making choices for yourself. I really like the parts of the game where you are both a struggling nobody as well as an up-and-coming drug kingpin.
Thank you noobtrain and skybarbie and darkpoenplace for the work you put into the game. Although lack of time prevented me from playing part 3 yet, I really appreciate the effort you put into and I'm sad that it won't continue.

Writing a game that pleases everyone is very difficult. I understand your frustrations with the game. I really do. You spelled it out very clearly the second time.
The events and stories in the game were largely meant to be rewards for succeeding in the game. That is why most of them are mid to late game. Some players complain that there should be events and stories throughout the game which I can understand also. This complaint made up an entire review in fact.
I wish we could have done better and please more players.
hyfka, I'm sorry that the events and stories in the game are just "being shown a story" for you. With the Family Trouble story especially, I attempted to make it as immersive as possible. Rescuing your family (mostly Phoebe and Anna) from a crime lord who was hunting them. You get to meet and interact with your family. Yes, the story was low on choices but felt that it was a heartfelt and touching story. I know I'm a poor writer but I didn't realize I was that bad.
Evil 2 suffers from the same core problem that Girl Life has - volunteer developers. Why is this a problem? Because volunteer developers implement the features they are interested in working on (mostly but not always). Some of the core problems with Evil 2 still exist simply because all four developers for the game had no interest in working on it.
That is one benefit I guess for developers who ask for donations or publish their games on Steam. They have to pay more attention to what players want in order to keep the money coming in. None of the four developers for Evil 2 tried to profit off of it. Some have suggested doing this but we really can't from an integrity standpoint. If I went and asked for donations, I would be asking players for work that was done by three different developers. Agree or disagree, skybarbie and I don't feel good about taking that route.
In my defense, I did implement plenty of player suggested features. Just look at the Changelog on the OP and click on the author's name (it will take you to the release post). When skybarbie first started, bug fixes were the main priority. skybarbie really helped clean up the game in addition to writing stories/events later on.

I feel like I owe the few fans left of the game an update. My plan is still to retire from developing for the game after the next release.
I've made small improvements to factories already and implemented the 'replay' events and stories feature as I mentioned in an earlier post.
The 'replay' feature will also allow players to start some of the events if they don't meet all the requirements (a few are still required). This should help all of the players posting save games wondering why they can't start a particular event or story. In all but one or two cases, players thought they met the requirements and they really didn't. Don't assume that you meet any requirement and double or triple check! As far as we know, the requirements have proven to be 99% accurate (probably 100% now with a few bugs that were fixed).
I've got one event 80% of the way completed. Unfortunately, I haven't worked on the game at all so far this month (April). I just haven't had the motivation necessary to do so... If this goes on for too long I'll just release what I've done and be finished. Hopefully I'll regain the desire to work on the game soon... Time will tell. This isn't a plea for anything on my part, I'm just being open and honest with the community.

skybarbie and I have discussed this in private and there is a 0% chance of us trying to profit off of the game. Yes, the porn is licensed and so is a lot of the music clips we use. You'll notice that nearly every Patreon funded game is using public domain license free music. The record labels go after offenders 100 times harder than the porn studios (it is insane). There are a few real porn games that have successfully done monetization but they are very rare.
I hope this puts this topic to rest. There is a 0% chance of us trying to profit off of the game.
Not that it really matters, but I don't think that stuff was actually in development. The gang stuff was all ported from the original EVIL, there has been cleaning up of the code and the UI along with bug fixes, but actual game mechanics have not been added to the gang system afaik.
That is part of the reason some people are slightly dismayed with this project, to those people the sand box stuff with the gangs and such was the game. They were excited when the game was getting updates and then those updates focused more on visual novel stuff.
Anyways yes it is sad that there isn't much more criminal empire style sandbox games.

No, but I get it, forcing people to work on stuff that they don't care about is weird, especially in volunteer work, even if it does get written it's not going to be well written. It's just a bummer that there wasn't anyone willing to develop or fix the sandbox stuff.

No. You could however replace one or more of the videos with your own. You would have to use the same filename and extension.

QSP goes exclusively of file names, so as long as you replace the picture with another picture of the same name there shouldn't be a problem.
