Hi, thanks for getting back to me!
I did try a little bit after that but it died off a little bit for me since I kept seeing that same thing creeping up on me again, we can call it taking a break haha ^^ I dont feel like im done with it yet though, the whole growing an empire thing is suprisingly addictive once the ball really starts rolling.
This is very good to know though, I did keep the archived install files so I didnt have to come back and download again, but next time I play I will just make a backup of these two files as fresh as possible (vlclog.log is not included in the archive so im guessing this one has to be generated on first startup?) and see if just swapping in a fresh set of these two files can be a nice and quick solution when things start acting up, instead of having to deal with the entire 22gb thing. Or taking up 44gb if its not necessary for that matter.
This part is purely guessing so feel free to disregard, but I did try just deleting vlclog and letting it generate a new one, but I do feel like it still starts having issues again much faster than it would from a fresh install. But I cant say ive tried it many enough times to be sure thats the case or just a coincidence though.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but since this file is called vlclog.log, does that mean it uses VLC player? Could there be any interaction with my separately installed version of VLC? As in, QSP tries to reference .ini files in %appdata% and its a different version or something like that?
I feel personally invested in this now haha
vlclog.log can just be deleted, you don't need to back it up. It's just a temporary log file.
The QSP version that this game uses was enhanced by Infinite (the player/developer). So this version is often referred to as the Infinity QSP Player. He took the standard QSP player and added video support using VLC video libraries. So yes, a part of VLC Video Player was added to this version of the QSP player.
Perhaps you can avoid the issue with the file getting corrupted by clicking on options in the game more slowly (any option that opens up a video). Again, I've never experienced the issue myself so I can't say with 100% certainty. I don't have a bug that I can troubleshoot.
The game is defiantly worth finishing! There are plenty of cheats available if you just want to get to the visual novel style events and stories in the game. I've authored/coded a number of them myself, so has jessicajones and
noobtrain. Jessicajones was the first dev/author to start the visual novel style events in the game and
noobtrain and I followed the same format/pattern that she used so they would all feel consistent and a part of the same game. I just finished a full playthrough and I greatly enjoyed playing my own stories and events even. Lots of nostalgia there!
There's no development going on in the game right now but the game has plenty of content and the stories and events sort of give the game a conclusion.
I don't know if
darkpoenplace is still around but he helped the game out a lot by proofreading most of the stories & events that noobtrain and I did and also doing game testing. He even wrote a bit (a few scenes in the events/stories), helping us out when we got burnt out on writing.
