First off, this thread isn't meant to kink shame and what not, it's just one (of many) niche fetishes that I just don't understand. And given that we see games based around that theme, especially text based ones, popping up every so often, I thought I'd ask what people got out of it. Usually porn games tries to sell you a fantasy, you're irresistible, you're able to break taboos, bend people to your will and what have you.

But what is the fantasy meant to be here?
Is the fantasy meant that you're supposed to identify as the character you're playing and getting off on 'you' being un-manned or are you not supposed to self-insert? Is this a gay fetish, transgender fetish, or are straight people into it as well?

I'm curious what the target audience is.
*Raises hand*

I realize that I am a bit late to the party, but I would like to offer my two cents.

This, like many other genres that cater to specific kinks, fetishes or themes, is often about fantasy fulfillment .

As prior commenters already mentioned, there are the usual suspects:
- People with gender dysphoria, who would like to experience life as the opposite gender.
- People with homosexual tendencies who would like to experience heterosexual sex with their own gender.
- People with a humiliation fetish, either on the giving or the receiving end, that see gender transformation as degrading, or just as a loss of power, status, etc.

I won't comment on those since there are people who actually fall into those categories and can explain it much better than me.

For me personally, the appeal of TG is the fantasy of test-driving a different equipment and exploring different sexual sensations. For instance, female breasts are more sensitive than the male equivalent (while I enjoy it when my wife plays with my nipples, it pales in comparison to her reaction when I play with hers) and some women can even climax from breast stimulation alone. And did you know that the clitoris has twice as many nerve endings than the penis, all concentrated in a much smaller area? Add to that multiple orgasms and a practically non-existent refractory period and you'll understand why some men are curious.

I identify as straight (in the sense that I am not sexually attracted to neither men nor masculinity), so I am only interested in games or media in which the post-transformation sex scenes are either lesbian or masturbatory (I don't know about you, but I find lesbian sex incredibly hot). I also have no issue with my gender and no desire to live my life as a woman, so I prefer plots in which the transformations are temporary and reversible. And I try to avoid scenarios in which the transformation is treated as a "downgrade", as I find humiliation to be a turn-off.

In short, for me it boils down to imagining different and novel ways of getting off. And contrary to the kind of sex that I can get in real life (did I mention I was happily married?), erotic transformations are something that I can only fantasize about; thus the allure of male-to-female, male-to-futa, male breast expansion, male genital expansion, and similar fetishes.

Hope that it explains one possible point of view on this subject.

Aside:
If anyone can recommend games or comics that feature such "recreational" transformations like I mentioned above, links will be highly appreciated.

Peace,
Lurker.

Short answer, people are fucked up and like fucked up things.
There are two types of people who play these games,
People in category one are homosexual. They may be be bi-curious, or in denial, but they want to experience having sex with their own gender. In the case of M > F, they are definitely gay; there is no spectrum. That door only swings one way.

People in category two just one to see the world burn. Or in this case, want to see a fucked up story and character.
You're putting to much flowers and nonsense to something very simple:
You either are a man or a woman and that's it ... All other things people want to attach to that is just unrealistic wishful thinking and apologetic babbling that people have made up to try to justify deviant, weird, freaky, aberrant, and sick fantasies that fall into the realm of compulsions and mental illness ...
Other people play them because they have homosexual tendencies. Simple as that.
And they say Neanderthals are extinct ...

Same here never got the appeal of that fetish. I understand the appeal of playing as female for certain type of games. But the transition always seemed pointless to me. But hey not every fetish needs to align with my taste so in reality I never really cared.

Eh, I actually quite like this fetish, played the X-Change games back in the day.
I am 100% straight, and was quite surprised that I didnt mind the game when I first played it (why I played
it in the first place was because I was a teenager and thought haha this sounds crazy why not)
I would say, I dont like romance or anything happening in these kind of games.
I also do not roleplay as the protagonist in any hentai games, I just like to control what happens
and observe the results. Even in a VN-style game like X-Change.

Why I enjoy, I guess I kinda like seeing the extreme stuff happen (not any of the really extreme stuff), and I guess I feel less bad knowing it is actually a
dude that it is happening too? lol. Idk, something like that.

I think it's extremely unlikely, at least in the case of male player, that someone likes BOTH female protagonist games and transformation games. My favorite games all have female protagonists, because lesbian games per definition have female protagonists (I don't like female protagonist straight games though), but I never found transformation games appealing.

Games with male protagonists have them work to earn sex (dmd anyone?). Games with female protagonists have them work to avoid sex. Which one do you pick when you want a quick fap?

I wont play a hentai game unless the protagonist is female or becomes female -.-. And I dont play them for the lesbian (tho I do not mind the odd lesbian scene). And yea, I am a straight male player. It is fair to say, that is because if I am playing a male protagonist I tend to roleplay, but I dont like roleplaying the male protagonists in hentai games (male protagonists games are pretty much covered by NTRd MC/Rapist and(or) sleazy Bastard MC/FemDominated MC) None of which I want to RP

My fav kinds of games are the ones.................. where u play as a male mc where u romantically seduce ur sister or may be a lesbian roommate.............................. And the ones where u play as super hot saintly female mc who slowly looses herself by letting ugly men have their way with her in preferably a non retarded way like road trip n Sarah's life

Now i do enjoy some TF games n comics cuz they satisfy the latter description.....after the prologue i get a hot virgin hormonal body of a woman in denial ..... N i get to slowly convert her into a slut....

Am 100 percent straight..... I just hv a fucked up mind n i may be lil misogynystic....l grew up watching Two n a half men

Fetishes like these work if you put time and money into it. Time is easy but money is always hard and with these games, the market is too small to get any decent profit. Its the same shit with or like Adorevia or a Nikraria game, if its drawn right and made like a proper project the shit is successful. One guys cringe is another guys splurge I guess.... I find the Incest shit weird, I wouldn't even think of fucking my family even if I got more money than Neymar in does a week or James Harden's new contract, but I still enjoy Man of the House, Dreams of Desire etc. I think with the transformation games, it is quite easy to overlook the "weirder" elements with a good story/art/girls and if you like Female MC and play a MtF and make her a slut, kind of like , I think it would sort of fit your agenda?

I'm curious what the target audience is.
I would not normally acquaint this particular fetish to a transgender effect... As usually it's a transmogrification of a characters biological sex from one type to the totally opposite type... So going from being a biological man one day to a biological woman the next, or visa-versa... In this fetish it usually does not transform the mindset or prior memories and sexual association... That it usually handled as a slow change over time, in a form of adaptation as the new norm for that character... Having to acclimate to the new you...

As to the actual desire or fantasy of this sort of fetish... It is really dependent on how the story is told and the player/reader's interpretation of that effect... Sure, some folks who may be transgender could actually relate to this sort of story, depending on how it's told... Same goes for someone who is sexually attracted to people of the same sex... But in some ways even a normal heterosexual could also be into this fetish... It again depends on how it's handled or told, and what the likes/dislikes of the player/reader are...

You could have a male reader/player who becomes immersed into a male character that transforms into a woman character because perhaps they are into lesbian sex, or perhaps they are tired of a male protagonist, or one of a bazillion different reasons... Same goes for a woman reader/player... There are lots of different reasons or combinations... Different strokes for different folks... Which makes giving one direct answer to a complex question difficult...

Futanari is a whole other fetish in and of itself, which sometimes may be a stage used in a transformation story... Which technically is the combining of two different fetishes... It's a different fetish for a different discussion, even if they can intermingle...

And the reader/player does not always have to self-insert and/or self-relate to find stories regarding transformation entertaining to read/play...

Fetishes themselves are a complex weave of desires, wants, experiences, fantasies, etc... A fetish you may find disturbing will of course make you wonder, how could anyone else be into it... Yet there are... I myself believe certain fetishes are extremely disturbing and maybe even borderline criminal, and I will avidly avoid them like they have the plague... And everyone else may have those same qualms or not, it all depends... Each person is different, and trying to understand it all will sometimes just wrack your mind with confusion...

I may come out a little strong here but for me it's about vulnerability, like in Retard in Lechertown games where the woman is an innocent idiot but to the next level, since there is no girl more vulnerable than one that wasn't even a girl and was forced to become one knowing nothing of her own body usually as a punishment for being the kind of guy that would do that to a girl or thinks less of them so that now they think less of themselves or becoming weaker and unable to resist the karma on their way.

Like I'm not self inserting into the character but instead I'm the one in charge to teach them a lesson and throwing them in the streets with not even their own identity.

Again this is just my perspective, it may sound a little crazy and I know that there is other people with other mindset while playing them but I just wanted to give my own answer here

but a good number of players and definitely some authors seem really into the fantasy of forcibly castrating and then raping these non-consensually transgender men.
Women are into rape fantasies, men who have TF fantasies are into rape fantasies in the role of a woman. I don't see how that would be surprising. It's role affirming. That said, castration is a bit strong of a word for a lot of involuntary TF games. It's often magic or science which might as well be magic.
All other things people want to attach to that is just unrealistic wishful thinking and apologetic babbling that people have made up to try to justify deviant, weird, freaky, aberrant, and sick fantasies that fall into the realm of compulsions and mental illness.
In fantasy it obviously works though. In fantasy sex can truly change, down to reproductive systems, in fantasy you don't even need to stick to a single sex. Indulging in fantasy isn't terribly healthy from a traditional perspective, but if it's only in porn ... well that's a vice we all share.

castration

n. The act of removing the testicles. (source: )

But hey, if we don't have to use words according to the dictionary definition, then I'd like to suggest that fictional sex between fictionally related characters isn't really incest. So Patreon should shut the fuck up about games that involve...I'm gonna call it 'Tiddlywinks,' aka sex between fictional characters who are fictionally blood relatives and definitely not 'incest' because the term 'incest' makes people uncomfortable and I don't like that.
