you don't have to be the best at anything to have an enjoyable story. for example, mgq paradox, an rpgmaker game that barely runs on 800x600 with no widescreen support could be called shit, and you'd be right to some degree, but me and many other people like it because it's simply a good read and quite enjoyable as a game. turns out, most people don't like endless, pointless masturbation and would like some story and context to go along with it.
I got no problem with a good story, but the RPG element seems so completely redundant and pointless to focus on. I take back my point about other JRPGs having better story because all these H-RPGs got going for them is the H and the story to go along with it.
What I'm meaning to say is, I always find the "game" element to be a damn chore in these things. They are so basic and shallow 95% of the time. I realize a great few got some pretty unique and sexy mechanics that makes it sort of worth it but even most games with a "horny" meter or some crap like that is incredibly superficial and the game element obviously only servers as a time-waster to make the customer think he got his money's worth.
In reality, if you compressed most of these game to its story and porn, which is the main reason ppl play these games lets be honest, then its over in 1-2 hours. This is why I much prefer Eroge VN over RPGM/Wolf games because the whole game is story and porn, exactly what people want and pay for. But guess what? it takes an enormous amount of effort and time to create even a decent Eroge. Premade shitty vanilla RPGM mechanics? Not so much.
They should focus on what customers play these games for instead of trying to make us waste our time in order to hide how little content they actually put in the game. If you don't realize you are getting played by these companies/creators, then you are a sheep.
A few notable exceptions, that I think these companies should look after are Melty's quest and the Acerola games. In these games, the RPG elements are suppressed or innovative enough to make the gameplay unique. Aside from the massive amount of H-content to make up for its mechanics, the story takes the front seat and you don't feel like you wasting your time playing the mechanics when you got H-content at every corner. The RPG element simply complements the game, and that is how it should be in my opinion.
