Man looking at ya'll criticise it so hatefully makes me kinda want to play to see how bad it is

I mean, Kinetic Novel exists where you don't really interact with the game, and I don't see why it's wrong if the dev wanna self-insert, as long as the porn is good.

Is it biased cuz the personality of the dev is not exactly likeable, or the game is really cringe to be enjoyed?

Iunno there's honestly not a lot of porn in it so I wouldn't want to give you the wrong impression, its more romance than erotica for most of the story but that's fine with me, I have no criticisms of the character designs either I think they have a lot of appeal to them. The story is pretty cheesy and the prose are not always particularly inspired but I don't mind a cheesy romance from time to time. Its been said the plot is very much a derivative of Adastra with the caveat that the story for FBtW was apparently penned before Adastra came out and the two dev's seem to be friends and there doesn't appear to be any bad blood between them. I also have nothing against kinetic vn either, but I would have to agree that there are times that the MC hasn't been the most likeable protagonist and I can't deny the option to have him behave differently in certain scenarios would have been greatly appreciated.

Certainly there is nothing wrong with writing a self-insert character but from what I understand about creative writing its generally seen as sort of a lack of sophistication. I suppose the problem is when people write self-insert characters they often aren't able to self-reflect accurately enough to portray themselves as a fully fleshed out character. They tend to feel very superficial if you can't take a good look in the mirror and see who you really are. Personally, I also find when the protagonist in particular is a self-insert, and the reader becomes aware of that; it begins to stand in the way of your reader forming an emotional connection with your protagonist and by extension your story.

Again nothing inherently wrong with that, its your story. Writing is hard, if being the main character is what makes it worth it for you then by all means its better than not writing at all. I'm just saying it does have an effect on the reader's experience. Especially in a medium that actually allows you to name the character. To have the author slowly erase the small amount of agency you do have in the story and replace it with their own feels very weird. Since I imagine some non-zero number of people started the game naming the protagonist after themselves. It seems kinda selfish and unnecessary to take that away from them.

And by unnecessary I mean the whole stuff about the name is very contrived. It just so happens in the wolf's language the author's name "Caelan" means "tiny" which I'm sure the author's biases about themselves played no part in. So the wolf man calls him Caelan as a nickname. At this point the MC has slowly decided that he doesn't like his actual name anymore and wants to be called just Caelan now. I was already cringing at making your name mean tiny in the made up language in your story but now the character has canonically taken your name instead of the name your reader gave them because he likes it better lol

anyway I've said way too much I hope I made a point somewhere lol

Since being an old patreon and have been following the juicy drama between this vn and its creator I would like to clarify that both the creator of Adastra and Kael have not been friends for a while. Don't wanna bring drama into this but just wanted to make that tiny correction.

There's some solid points. Thanks to elaborate about the game, not some random dev drama which may not be relevant.
I was interested in this game before, cuz someone holds it highly as "popular FVN". And I also know some other cheesy self-insert VN in making but they have quality porn in them (weirdly enough, also Adastra inspired ).

Personally I don't really like story central around romance unless it's really well-written, IMO most of them are boring.

When there's no porn in the game, the only thing you can focus on is the story, and yeah "self-insert" does not go along with refined writing, it'll be in the way all the time - not only the immersion, but also the story itself.
Worse is it's not a Kinetic Novel, but the dev takes away your agency just so he can better self-insert? That's some high level trolling ...:KEK:

Guess this will be one of those I never touch (sounds kinda waste of time :D)

if you guys are interested in another gay furry vn the first version of Demons Within by Sleth seems promising. v2 is out for patrons and is due to be made public in 2 weeks. You can find it on itch.io and vndb. Just saying cus it doesn't seem like its been posted here yet. Im not a patron but it gets public releases so might as well spread the word I guess xD

Played it, and have to say, this game has potential but i only wish the author put some color change or name for the text of who is speaking in the dialogue box, it can be confusing sometimes.

Man this guy keep making alpha after alpha and not finishing up the previous chapter for some reason
the "alpha" games are just the name of the chapter with some unfinished things like missing sprites, for the 2nd tier patrons, then it becomes the beta when lowest tier patrons get it and then later on becomes the full ver.

After playing the chapter 16, i just can't feel good at the prospect of how useless is for you to have to choose a name when in the end it doesn't matter.
Seriously, just doesn't seem right to me everytime i have to look at the text box and see Caelan.
