This game is almost a classical visual novel. All those "game elements" are just to make the game seem longer.
I think you should be ok here. The stranger isn't present everyday, just play through some more days and keep checking if he shows up. After the stranger refuses to pay to look at monica's boobs she will then be able too make some money showing them to the other slum dwellers.
Any scenes or dialogue that you are repeating can be skipped by holding down the ctrl key. I have got to say that I totally disagree that the text in a sandbox game is a waste of time. Poor English translations for me make a game unplayable. There does need to be a good balance of not too much reading per render though. Milky Touch is a good example in my opinion of making the player read far to many paragraphs per render. I haven't played the game for six or so months so I have no idea if the developer has improved his render to word count.
