I'm fine working my ass off on the next episode. Report to follow shortly (and sorry for the lack of transparency @PrettyBoi99 and MFW Safety always off, I just felt like there's nothing really to say except I'm still working on it). I've nearly finished the writing draft for the episode – should be done in the next couple of days, but then we still need more time to get it into shape for a release – some placeholder text needs to be worked in, the new art needs to be coded in, I need to tweak some scenes so they work if you choose to do the Big Mac date before the White Russian date (or do only one, or neither), etc.

I'm so sorry it's taking so long, guys, I'm so stressed about it you wouldn't believe it, this episode has just taken way too long for what it is. Anyway I'm fine and still working my ass off, actual report to follow.
His...DRAFT...isn't complete?

That was my reaction. Six months of "full time" and he hasn't even completed the draft of an episode that he already announced as being smaller than expected. At this point this has to be an experiment, right? How much, or rather, how little can he get away with? It is just amazing.
That's up to his patrons. His support has been slowly decreasing but it's still there

He’ll get away with all of it. Every time he delays or misses a deadline, his discord fanbase just doubles down on their devotion. You can’t reason with them or even broach the thought that maybe this has spiraled out of control, because they all rush to defend their savior.
And each time he misses a date, their only response is, “Take your time” Textbook enabling.

Common guys, don't think so bad about Crush. My presumption, to speed up the process of writing, he personally visited Thailand, made gender transition, and now tries to become a bar girl. And once he succeeded, we will receive final game, with "spiced up scenes" within a month. P.S. it also explains why he writes reports once in a few months)

You know, I just realized we should be happy Crush is still wasting his talent on porn fiction. With his ability to get devout idiots to praise absolutely any stupid crap he does (or mostly doesn't) deliver, if he ever shifts gears to pseudo-spiritual mumbo-jumbo, he'll be bigger than L. Ron Hubbard.

Getting so much money basically for free, doing no work and milking "patrons" that have forgotten they're even paying something per month. Don't you just love the world we live in?
At the same time people who work their butts off barely scrape by in life, while frauds like the one in this thread are buying mansions and cars, laughing their asses off.

Keep on enabling them, it's a fascinating watch.

Looks like some solid and well founded bitching in the discord prompted this update. It won't get crush to change his habits but I'm still holding out hope that he farms out the writing again. I know he tried it before and the patrons screeched to high hell,
Hang on... is that true? Who did he farm it out to and what were the objections?

"Some dialogue dead ends and placeholder text need to be fixed"

6 months and there is still placeholder/dead end text. I expect that if the update was 1/2 months.

It's like he's writing a full course load of work in a university. Prepping lectures 3 times a week, every week, along with writing up exams and questions... marking assignments. I bet 6 months of what university prof does is like 100 times more work.
There's still options that don't do anything and placeholder text/images from 10 (I really don't think I'm exaggerating here) releases ago.

"He's doing a text-based game in Twine, those updates should be fired off EVERY month!"
It's amusing to see how divorced from reality people can be here.

There are definitely games out there (Twine and otherwise) that hit updates with new content every month or two. *cough* *cough*

So. It is possible and realistic.

Japanese devs seem to be able to put out finished/semi finished games based on RPG Maker (primarily) and Ren'Py (occasionally) every few months with art (usually character stills), animations (pixel animations or 3D based) and roughly the same amount of text as this game (yes, the whole game), as well as the same rehashed combat system that everyone does.

But somehow almost all of these Twine western games are stuck in development limbo (to say it lightly, because the scamming accusations are getting repetitive). I guess japanese devs have special courses to make lewd games and they have a framework and teams with years of experience...

...or maybe, I dunno, the fact that they only get money once they release it and it's sold is a good incentive.

it's not a game, but a kinetic (that means without routes/choices) novel, basically a simple book divided into slides. and it requires in general the same amount of coding on this stage of development as an ordinary book.

so, yes. I expect that a guy who writes the same book for 7 years will be more productive. Or if he isn't capable of doing so, at least hire some professional writer to help him

I'm curious what about that statement makes someone "divorced from reality"...

Because this is a text-based kinetic novel (not a game... it would need branching paths and decisions that matter and make difference for that) with almost no graphic ouside the paper doll... putting out an update EVERY month should be the norm! And that is only because of that paper doll... without it for the amount of story each new update contain TWO WEEKS should be more then enough.

You do realize that this game is by now SEVEN YEARS old and we're still in very early stages of story... with close to a third of current content being written more then six years ago! Even worse, that in those seven years several other developers whose games you can find here that also work on their games alone (which Crush is not!) released multiple full games with fully rendered images and some of them even include animations?

So yeah, I really fail to see what is so amusing about expecting Crush to release and update every month and why would that be "divorced from reality"...

I wouldn't be this harsh because writing even linear, regular novel can take time (and even the most basic VN has room for scripting errors and such which have to be potentially tested for, spotted and fixed) But yes, it is relatively easy kind of game to develop, one that can be produced at decent pace.

But then, that's a theory. In practice, if you have a look at how similarly amateur devs work on their purely text-based Choicescript games (and there's quite a few of them out there) you'll also see plenty of WIPs which can take multiple months between updates and sometimes more, and it still can take them 4-5 years to complete such game, if they even complete one at all.
