Looks like i was right. His new system is complicated enough that the game keeps breaking.
Good thing that scene is supposed to be a "demo" for "the real thing". Can't wait to see how the game breaks when the proper full dynamic scenes are implemented.

I do wonder what the problems are. If it's straight up "game crashes and won't continue to next passage" then it's a big issue. But if it's stuff like "The transition isn't as smooth as I'd like to", that's something that is (arguably) better left aside. Call it "Leave it to the reader's imagination" if you will.

I think a year ago I listed things that cause Patreon funded games to grind to a halt.

First and foremost is "feature creep". Dev has an idea that could work, but then has to alter previously done things to make it work.

The number of features your favourite AAA releases have cut because they game wouldn't meet deadlines would stagger you. Fully funded, fully staffed projects cut great ideas all the time because of feature creep. Grinds projects to a halt while remaking everything that's already workable / functional and then sometimes breaking it.

Patreon games never cut features once they've been announced, fear of backlash maybe or desire to deliver "the best possible version" of their project.

If people don't want to support crush they can stop. No one is holding them hostage. Patreon supporters don't need justice warriors campaigning against him to stop supporting him, they can see what's going on from his own posts.

It would be nice if people stop criticizing and attacking games/developers for being slow. All that does is kill motivation and make a project less enjoyable to work on. There are about a thousand other games you could play while you wait. I've been waiting just as long as anyone else here, and I never felt the need to complain about the release dates or progress. In fact, I play a game called RAFT too, and I've been waiting just as long for an update on that game. In the meantime I've been enjoying other games.

Personally, I want a sophisticated sex engine, fuck expanding the story. You can write story at any time. I'd rather have more character customization 100%. Who the fuck wants a generic game like the rest? we already have hundreds of games on here with stories. But none of them have the same customization features. Character creation is what attracts everyone to this game. Making the character YOU WANT be apart of the story.

If one day crush decided to create an algorithm/AI that can take an uploaded photo of someone and make the protagonist in the game look like them. Then I'd happily wait 2 years for the next update. So yeah, fuck story. Bring me more capabilities, not text. Revolutionize the games, and release the source so that we can have more games like this.

and make your own game since you're all experts at updating games.

You are total newbie so you might think "I like developers idea" but history has proven that its not very feasible system.
You should think about what DinosaurUnion wrote: feature creep. Its common illness of development. Sometimes developers have these "great ideas" but to make them work they have to re-do previous work. It usually turns into never ending cycle of reworking old stuff and final software (game) never gets finished.
Thats why people complain so much, we have all seen it so many times (another great example: Star Citizen).

Another would be FF15 which went into development hell with all the new features and etc, but when SE needed it to be released, they changed the director and had the old one work on KH3 which both feel really dead.

Right. A development team of one person is never going to "revolutionize" the structure of these kinds of games. It's terribly naive to think this.

I've followed a lot of patreon games and I've never seen anything like this dev's ratio of writing about the development of the game versus the actual writing being put into the game. It's actually quite tragic. This game was never going to be revolutionary, but it could have been very good. It will end up being neither.

I won't comment on the rest, but I will comment on this thing specifically: You don't have to actively be doing the same thing as someone else to know a thing or two (and criticise) about their results. I have no idea about carpentry/woodworking personally, but if a chair is uncomfortable and feels unstable, I can comment on that.

In more practical terms, many people here have either or/and:

- Seen many lewd game projects grind to a halt
- Seen many software projects encounter the same issues, no matter what the project is or the size of the team (feature creep is the more prominent, just one of them).

Try SplendidOstrich! His blogposts about politics were longer than the actual content added to the game.

You mean he's been working on it in twine every day for about 3 years and he still fails to make proper loop? Does this mean he is slow learner or is it just a Sunday side work with fat tip? I did not wanted to sound rude, but all that white knighting is quiet sad to read, let's wait and let his work speak for himself.

Honestly, this has reached a point where I'm wondering if CrushStation
a) listens too much to patrons and is including too many ultimately meaningless options in a bloated character creation
b) is too ambitious in terms of creating complex scenes (quite possibly due to trying to avoid excessive customization options being meaningless)

That's a combination that's kept the game from getting past the prologue for near on three years, and recently, he hasn't been actually been talking about how easy some framework makes introducing scenes, but how big and difficult to test this single scene is.

So at this stage, I'm honestly wondering if every single scene will take months to develop, which would in fact be a bit much even by lone wolf porn game developer standards.

Three years, and we're still stuck in the character development stage. Will we ever see an actual, playable game out of all of this? Or will we be forever doomed to stay stuck in character creation Hell?

Don't worry a game pioneering how these games will be played will have some delays. But when crush releases the source code so other people can create characters and stories based off the same customization, you will all be thanking him for doing the hard work. short term gratification sacrificed for long term benefits is how people have always achieved great things. i am glad the update is being fine tuned a few weeks before release.
Agreed, not only that, but when 1.7 comes, it will get a spotlight in Forbes. I can already see it: "Revolutionary game changes how we see gaming." And Jeff Bezos himself will vouch for it.

Is this a bad time to point out that it takes WAY too long to create a new character in this game? Especially a character who is never getting to Bangkok....

Haha, you realise that the the "source code" for all intents and purposes is public? Being an html file and all that.

As soon as 1.6 is released we're going to see faster updates with 1.7 and 1.8, this is probably one of the best games on here. I'm glad crush is taking his time. Instead of pumping out a visual novel he's actually coding the customization patreon subscribers are paying for. When 1.7 comes out it will silence the critics for sure and the game will speak for itself. I'm glad I donated money toward the game.

Use notepad, to edit, You'll have your source code... Honestly by now I'm wondering if you are trying to troll hard or you are just... Not very well informed.
