I think a year ago I listed things that cause Patreon funded games to grind to a halt.
First and foremost is "feature creep". Dev has an idea that could work, but then has to alter previously done things to make it work.
The number of features your favourite AAA releases have cut because they game wouldn't meet deadlines would stagger you. Fully funded, fully staffed projects cut great ideas all the time because of feature creep. Grinds projects to a halt while remaking everything that's already workable / functional and then sometimes breaking it.
Patreon games never cut features once they've been announced, fear of backlash maybe or desire to deliver "the best possible version" of their project.
