Since we are all like-minded deviant scumbags circling the drains of humanity, I would like to strike up a discussion with y'all on the subject of Female vs. Male protagonists.

I personally prefer female protagonists. I often disregard male protagonist games right off the bat. Most of the male protagonist games just seem way too seedy to me; like you're posing as some stud just fucking your way through 'worthless' women. However, playing as a woman feels like you're somehow taking power over sexuality and making choices that changes the character. When playing as a male, I just get the sense, that, you know; 'men are creeps', from beginning to end, and it's just a question of how many notches you can get on your belt. With female protagonists you can get a sense of development, from inoccent to deviant. But with male protagonists, you just start, stay and end deviant. I would therefore argue that character development is significantly limited in most male protagonist games, whereas with female protagonist games, you can get a real sense of progression, of character evolvement, which ultimately results in way more interesting storylines.

Anyway, what you guys think? And if you prefer male protagonist games, I would love to understand why? Maybe if someone gave me some perspective on this matter, I could perhaps start enjoying those games as well, which would be good, cos (DAMN!) there are a lot of them games out there. It would be 'a whole new world' to me (like Aladdin dude!). Remeber that movie? That was a good movie, man.

Alright, thanks for you time and hopefully your input. Now I'm just gonna lean back and wait for that deviant mountain to come to Muhammad.

Love and peace, SAFFID.

I prefer male protagonist games for the same reason I play as a male in regular videogames if it's an option: I project myself onto the MC. So when I'm playing, often times I disregard the MC as a character and just view him as an extension of me. So in a game like Personal Trainer (just a random shoutout to a game I've enjoyed lately) it's not the MC that's sleeping with those women, it's me.

I don't disagree that a lot of games write their characters to be like creeps, but depending on my mood I could see myself going along with it. Or if I'm being perfectly candid, I just let it slide since that's not what I am personally playing the game for. A lot of these games for a lot of players is fantasy fulfilment

Also on a side reason that's much less relevant, I just don't like Female Protag games because I prefer games where there are multiple women to have sex with, where a FP game is the reverse and instead just switches up the men (other than lesbian content but that's not really something I go out of my way for.)

Your preference for male or female seems to have very little to do with the difference between playing one or the other but instead of the types of story that is written. Nothing that has to do with either.

I think you are over selling the quality of the average female character. Playing Melty Quest, one of the greatest female led games there is, the options for a female game are normally, remain pure or have train run on you.

I always liked to play as a girl and play ... naughty, while I think myself as a straight man. I don't know, maybe the point of porn is to experiment something you cannot IRL.

Like transformations games or become a slut games, you wouldn't, obviously, become a slut IRL because you can, but you can touch the feeling while playing and get back to your actual life after ... after you know what :p.

I slightly prefer male MC's over female MC's for the simple reason that male MC games usually have more a variety of women in them. I do however play both and have favorite games among each.

Hey man. Thanks for your thoughts. I respect your opinion, but I'm sorry, your response makes very little sense to me. I don't understand how you are able to separate the character of the story from the story itself (story as it is written)? Maybe I misunderstood. Feel free to elaborate, if I got this all wrong. Cos I don't really see your point.

I think you are over selling the quality of the average female character. Playing Melty Quest, one of the greatest female led games there is, the options for a female game are normally, remain pure or have train run on you.
Firstly, I disagree with Melty's Quest being one of the greates female led games, but that is really just a question of preference. Secondly, you make it sound like every game is either remain pure or become deviant, in many cases you are right about that, but you forget, that there is hopefully a looong journey in between those two points. For me it's really about the journey of the character; from A to B and through C, D, E, F etc and all the way to Z (last stop: train running). Hehe.

All in all, when it really comes down to it, we could break down the difference between male and female protags to the following:

1) Female Protagonist: Internal journey of sexual self-discovery. The female will (in most games) start out 'pure' and external forces will then have her faced with choices which will corrupt this purity (aka guys and/or girls will hit on protagonist). Meaning: The protagonist will end up a different person from when we started.

2) Male Protagonist: External journey of sexual conquest. The male will (in most games) start out 'deviant' and internal deviant forces will then have him attempting to corrupt the purity of surrounding females (aka protagonist will hit on girls). Meaning: The protagonist will remain the same person as when we started.

My point is, and this is where personal preference plays a significant role i quess; I find male protagonist games to be quite repetitive, and forgive me for generalizing here: In these games it becomes merely a question of conquest, of tallying up points on a scoreboard, and I personally don't find that to be very interesting. Whereas with female protagonist games, there is a journey, an exploration and development of character that evolves thorughout the storyline as we slowly transition from a state of purity into a state of deviancy.

That's all for now. I hope you could follow my logic. I don't know quite how well I explained that.

I don't feel like you're really delving into an analytical mindset on that one. :)

I can completely follow you on that one. There is actually something 'otherworldly' in female protag games. You are sort of allowed access to a mindset that would not normally be possible IRL.

I COMPLETELY understand your points. The funny thing is, even as a pretty standard hetero male myself, I can actually empathize fully with a female protagonist. I think it's just a question of being immersed in the story and the character. Not to be spamming, but I'll just repeat some of the points I already posted to another dude. Just so you get a better understanding of where I'm coming from:

For me it's really about the journey of the character; from A to B through C, D, E, F etc and all the way to Z. All in all, when it really comes down to it, we could break down the difference between male and female protags to the following:

The male will (in most games) start out 'deviant' and internal deviant forces will then have him attempting to corrupt the purity of surrounding females (aka protagonist will hit on girls). Meaning: The protagonist will remain the same person as when we started.

This is of course an over-simplification, but I think it applies in most cases anyway.

My point is, and this is where personal preference plays a significant role i quess; I find male protagonist games to be quite repetitive, and forgive me for generalizing here: In these games it becomes merely a question of conquest, of tallying up points on a scoreboard, and I personally don't find that to be very interesting. Your original point seemed to revolve the idea that female protagonists make for better stories.

I was just pointing out that is something that is entirely down to the writer, not the protagonists gender.

If you enjoy stories involving female characters more, that is something separate and I can't really say it's right or wrong as it's a matter of taste.

okay i will tell you my point why i like male protagonist and i don't like female ones
i really tried many female protagonist games i cannot even stand them and unlike others even in video games i cannot play with female ...maybe because i like to be the protagonist i like to be the one who fuck not the one being fucked [the female]

so i easily avoid every single game that depend of female protagonist .. and i don't mind if the game contain only one girl or many girls as soon as there is a story and the protagonist is male and there is no NTR i will play it

maybe if you just tried the right game you will play male protagonist and even hate the female ones

when you play as female do you think of yourself as female or just you play the game as a third person who read the story
if you are play it as a third person who just read the story then you better read novel (you will be more stasifed)

the games developed with the ability to make you take decisions to make you in the game as the protagonist not as a third one who just read a story

and anyway if you are interested more in female protagonist so maybe you are just playing for sex scenes
i cannot stand to play a game just for sex i want story and of course i want to be a male not female

Oh ok, yeah I get that completely. For instance I really enjoyed the game Depraved Awakenings, and that was because of the story. So you are absolutely right about that. I think, all I was trying to say was, that character development is also a huge part of the story itself. In Depraved Awakenings fx. we have a great story where the Male Protagonist goes through an awful lot of stuff and he does come out on the other end a somewhat different character. However, his depravity (or: 'the sexual nature') of the character is completely intact. As the player you don't ever get the sense, at any point throughout the story, that his sexuality is evolving. Maybe that's it actually?! Maybe what I'm really talking about is, that I enjoy it when the sexuality of the protagonist is almost like a separate character in and of itself. A separate character that goes through its own journey.

I think most protagonists in porn games suck.

Western flavor:
Males tend to be these awful creepers who have literally no personality outside of the unrelenting desire to get laid.
Females tend to be drooling idiots getting raped by everything with a remotely phallic appendage.

Japanese flavor:
Males are bland milquetoasts with no hobbies and no real opinions about anything but nevertheless attract a large contingent of girls with no life outside of the competition for his cock.
Females are those vomit-inducing "sweet everygirls" who are supposed to be naive and plain but end up as the sole lust object of a bunch of upper-class boys (if not royalty) who would everything for her ~love~ which often involve saving them from the rapist of the week.

Give me anything outside of these archetypes and I'll at least attempt to play it.

I tend to go for immersion so female MC is the way for me but I also tend to go for lesbian content which isn't exactly in abundance and there is a lot of content involving female protags that isn't my kink like corruption and rape.

I do generally avoid male protag games.

I get that! For you it might be a question of control then? I mean, having control over the scenarios, the situations. Maybe even a question of dominance? I can understand that, if that is the case. I kinda like both sides of the coin. And I think you get that with both male and female games. In most female protag games you'll reach a point where your 'avatar' starts taking control over the situations and is no longer being 'exploited' or "fucked" (as you so eloquently put it. HAHA!).

maybe if you just tried the right game you will play male protagonist and even hate the female ones
Believe me mate, I've tried more than plenty. And I DO enjoy a a lot of them, just not as much as female protagonist games. I could elaborate on my points, but I don't wanna keep spamming this thread with the same points. So if you're looking for further explanation of my view points, I would just refer you to some of the other correspondences I've had on this thread.

That's actually a really interesting question, never thought about it like that. I guess I'm a fucking woman when I'm playing. HAHA! Never realized that. I mean, when I play, I am the protagonist, whoever that protagonist might be.

Thanks man, I'm getting to know myself better here. :)

Interesting. Could you give some examples of games that suit those criterias?

anyway when i play a female protagonist game i cannot let the girl fucked by anyone ... i don't know why iam over protective for her but i really tried many game because when i play with a girl i consider my self the girl and that's wrong so i avoided

but when i play as male i feel like iam in a new world with new girls to discover them

but believe me you problem is simple if what you are saying is true that the problem with character development and the story
then ..
why don't you just try the right male protagonist game ??

let me as you another question if you are watching a porn movie so do you consider yourself the male who is fucking the girl
or the female who is being fucked my the man (of course you are the male) unless you watching it as a third person too :D

then maybe you are just a voyeurism (discover what you really like and you will be more stasified with the game you play )

@Avaron1974
you specially should avoid female protagonist games because
-most of them about the female getting raped
-the rest about a lesbian woman turned to be a straight woman
-every female western game until now developed for male too
-they are mixing tastes and making it impossible
-so me as a male and have no experience about lesbians i could get the wrong impression

Sure. Just on top of my head:

Western male: Big Brother, Dating my Daughter, Harem Hotel
Western female: Road Trip, Katie's Corruption

Japanese male: 99% of visual novels with a school setting like Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate, Wagamama High Spec...
Japanese female: otome games with actual porn like Chou no Doku Hana no Kusari (though it has a rich MC) or Under the Moon

There's also the case of all Japanese RPG Maker dungeon crawlers with rape-on-defeat but for them the protagonist tend to be similar to western female ones.
