Hi!
So, after a good 4h night sleep here I am again, actually writing this in the middle of my irl workday. I'll try to structure this absolute yapping tirade in a cohesive manner, but I make no promises that it will be intelligible.
First of all, thanks to everyone who played for the kind words, it really means a lot.
Past
Oof, 11 months from the 0.01 to now, time kinda flies innit? So much stuff happened. But I think the most important is that I met a circle of people that absolutely pushed me forward on this passion project. I'm eternally grateful for them, not only for the help they provide, teaching me new stuff all the time, but for the companionship that comes with it, most are devs, new/old, deep into their games, or on their second one, or even aspiring devs, which I'll be sure to plug once they release their projects. Anyway, I initially planned to release on August, or early September, but my irl job had a hiccup midway through the year that made me have a lot less time and brain power to dedicate to it. It's just facts of life, I also have to balance a demanding job with family time, and it gets pretty tricky some days. The thing is that I never got sick of working on the project, if anything I couldn't wait to be rested and continue working on it. What didn't help was that my daughter started kindergarten school and, while I thought that I was a pretty healthy guy, what I was is a person who didn't have a toddler full of all the germs known to man coughing and sneezing inside my eyeballs at least a dozen times a day, so yeah, I got sick a lot this past couple months, but it too shall pass.
Relating to the game, v0.01 and v0.02 are essentially Chapter 1. Everything is set up for the story to evolve, and you can have a glimpse of each character, their conflicts and motivations will become clearer as the story goes along. As I said before, the 2 first releases would not have any "adult" sexual content on them, I couldn't find a way to put one that would not feel shoehorned in. But I prepared the terrain for the future, don't fret.
Present
So, right now I'm kicking myself for forgetting to save the script and forgetting the ##PLACEHOLDER## text in it. Anyway, it's on brand, since I forgot the placeholder >Max< text in the first release. Welp. The first race will be in Italy. I'll take this weekend to start polishing the first scenes of the next chapter, which is their getaway to the Green Hell, I hope it will be fun. After that, the season will kick off, with everything that it entails. For this next chapter I plan to have a couple (I'll not promise a fixed number, at least not right now) of sexual encounters, I'll also not say who's involved and to which extent, just trust that I will try my hardest to not feel gratuitous or "there just to have it".
Future
So, for the future, how will the release works? I'll do a little shake up on the Patreon benefits but this will not change. Everyone that's subscribed to the tier that has "early access of development builds" will receive MORE updates, this will be somewhat unpolished. My plan is to essentially make a couple of scenes, post-work them, code, add the music, etc, and push it out as a development build. I will try to figure out a way for them not to conflict with your main "Public Release" saves, since these will be wildly subject to future changes, this way I'll try to reduce the strain on myself of having to do an insurmountable amount of the "same work" on one go, it's really draining. It's also a good way for supporters to peek behind the curtain a bit.
Changelog-ish
So if you haven't played already, I'll try to summarize the major changes, and provide some insight on my thought process.
- Lexicon = So a lot of people who were not really into racing or motorsport in general were kinda thrown off by the technical terms throwed around, and following a suggestion from the user BlackRing I decided to implement this feature. It's just a way that I can offer more insight in a surface level without having to resort to audience surrogates in story, or overexposition.
- Choices = Well this is the main feature of this update. Choices will become a big part of the game; I'll add a screen in game where you can see more information about it. They work in a pretty simple manner. (I already explained this in previous posts, but I'll do it again, you can skip this if you already know, nothing changed).
- There're 6 types of choices, "World Perception" has 3 types and "Girls Perception" has 3 other types, the combination of the highest score of each one will give the MC his Personality. The world/girls will react to his current personality, but also every choice has a flag that may impact if you said something at a certain point, independent if you are in a personality type or not.
- You don't have to worry about getting locked out of a path based on these choices, they will however, impact how the world/girls react to you. Girl paths will have their own major choice moments. Why? Because I, as a player would like to respond the way a feel like is the best for each situation without getting worried about if the girl, I like in the game will be locked out or not. What I'm trying to do is take out the onus to game the system from the player and give more work to me, because now the girl has to react to your chosen personality, and that can be very different from each other. I firmly believe this will make for a more enjoyable experience overall. The ONLY caveat is for a specific path with a specific girl, and I think all the choices are pretty obvious.
- The choices are compounding, so as the game goes on if you pick more of the same style it will start to be hard to move away from it. It's like this to make sense in its own world. If the MC keeps picking the snarky/confrontational response over and over, he will be known as someone that often gives those kinds of responses. It will, however, not take away your ability to be serious when you want to be.
- The future "Personality" screen will give more insight on what's going on, but since this is a major development, I didn't want to start working on it now and postpone the release for more time.
- Phone: I did a bit of an overhaul on the phone so other characters can talk between each other, the previous version didn't have that, and I upgraded its graphics. I don't plan to add more functionalities to it; I think this is enough to convey what it needs to convey.
- Main Menu music was upgraded.
- Ambience volume was properly implemented (now it has a use!)
- The timing sheet was updated to reflect the name you picked.
- Exe Icon now works (Thanks nuii)
- (If I remember something more I'll edit this post)
I'll stop talking now, and go get some rest.
Again, thank you for sticking around, and... if you're new: Welcome!
