Aren't we only two and a half updates into the slave route epilogue? Give it some time man.

They're not entirely wrong. First slave epilogue update also had dev time split off to come up with a inferior gallery to the mod that's had major dev money funneled into its creation, and this second update doesn't have a gallery update cause they had a family emergency which wouldn't be bad on its own but mity wants to keep to schedule so this is a reduced update and 18titans will receive its full month of dev time.
Between the story keeping a majority of the girls away from us, the repeated side projects eating slave epilogues dev time when love epilogue was mostly undisturbed, and this game's history of slave route's lack of polish compared to love route. We got excited when we realised this time love route can have the worse development since it was first, and then slave route can have the more polished experience as a nice reversal of fate after all these years.
Instead slave route seems to be getting neglected again with new reasons. And its making me question whether I'm reading too much into the glory that might be coming.

i think you're misled somewhat there.
the whole epilogue is the side project. the game had been declared finished as of version 1.0, and everything that came after that, was either bugfixes, or bit by bit added content which yes, was talked about before they finished, but actually is what Marty does alongside his (main, more or less) solo project, 18titans.
now that he started to work on a gallery, is very likely owed to supporters nagging about it.. and again he has to trial&error that like he started coding, from scratch, and make it work with the game..
while none of the patreon people who come here, had spent a thought of just telling him there's already a working gallery mod existing, which the creator has agreed on to inform Marty. things could go So. Much. Faster. with any random patreon person telling Marty about it. probly DM him the Mega link, so he'd save some time have a look at that code and accept that idea as some shortcut.
i'd bet my savings on the fact neither of the FET dev team runs an account here.
on the other hand, waifu and i agreed i won't gamble, ever, also all of that is written over to my wife, for lessay legal mumbo jumbo reasons.

I haven't read the post where he talks about the reason he's building the gallery in a while, but I remember thinking when he first started talking about it that it sounds like he wants to hide the Ikki, and youth potion content unless you specifically unlock it though game play first. The other gallery just unlocks all scenes and variants. I like the existing one and will continue to use it, but that's my guess as to why he's building the gallery.

While that all may be true, he still didn't start it until love epilogue was done, instead starting it immediately on slave epilogue's first update, splitting dev time. Then the second update comes out alongside a family emergency, and he makes the call to make this update smaller to keep to schedule, splitting dev time. Considering their history of slave route being less than love route, it's a real problem.
It's a very convoluted way of doing it since I haven't got a save that's played through katara love route but I can see those scenes. He's also no stranger to hiding stuff by clicking certain objects, picking certain dialogue options, or clicking specific invisible spaces.

I'm confident the slave route will get at least the same amount of content for the epilogue as the love route. If not more.

Do I need to worry about needing a walkthrough to play this without missing scenes, or is it like akabur's princess trainer in that there's no way to fail the game or miss stuff?
You don't need a walkthrough. And if you finish a book you can always check the gallery through the mod on the first page of this thread.
Speaking of Akabur, has he released anything since chapter 12 of Star Channel 34? Been a LOOOOONG while since I've seen his content.
You will end up seeing most of the game's cutscenes because they are mandatory to advance in the game, but there are some scenes that you may miss because they are avoidable or because they are not necessary to finish the route, so it is important to pay attention to the dialogue and explore a lot before heading. finalize the routes, however, you can see all the scenes by downloading the gallery mod.
You could miss minor scenes in all chapters if you only focus the "main objective", and loli gated content in book 4. But most of the content in the game is required.
Occasionally you need to click certain spots on the screen without a prompt.

for certain you will have to play both routes with each book, if you don't want to miss content. also, some content really depends on your decisions, so if you want to see say, loli scenes, you have to go down a certain path with respective answers. else it's pretty much 'got stuck? click everything, make sure to talk to everyone' most of the times. no real dead ends.

Hard to say anything without more information but I think you need to find Yangchen like Avatar Kyoshi told you. If so, you can find her on air temple island at night. If she's nowhere to be found, skip a day and try again.No one can help?!
