Is there any actual and valid reason for an erotic Visual Novel to be in 4K?
Like... I'm not gonna be fapping to the visual quality of the graphics or am I mistaken? And that I need to get a hard on watching how good and clear the skin pores texture on the 3D characters?

Should you have a 4K monitor/TV/movie studio, you could be happy to not lose any quality based on stretch marks.
Otherwise, a PC/Laptop/Notebook/Phone/Tablet standard monitor will be enough.
Even most AAA games do not have graphics cards to actually run everything in 4K, but for quality nuts with deep pockets or huge monitors, there is the option.

Over 20 GB is just insane. Especially given the limits for non-payer on faster places like Mega and the 1980s level slowness of other ones. Just extracting it took over 40 minutes after it downloaded. Why not have a non 4K version for those of us who don't have top level graphics cards where it will make a difference?

4K monitor owners already are extatic at the game giving them their eroge hype Dopamine.
Some have huge TV/monitors they screen the game on and they are extatic also.
Edit: we got a 5.7GB compressed, as this game has all 720p, 1080p and 4K in the same distro and we choose what we game for.

Like in any setting, choosing 720p or 1080p will help your PC/Laptop/Notebook/Phone/Tablet runt the game smoother, but if you wanna test your brand new investment, the 4K overkill will be a yum-yum treat.
There will be a 1 or 2 GB compressed version posted any day now, just be patient and trust the process.

What country are you in? You can still use SD cards. In my country, NM cards no longer work.
My country mobile phone shipments is 314 million in 2024.No phone can be inserted with expansion card, no one.

You are missing one small detail: for visual novels, where each image is displayed on the screen for an average of 3 seconds, and usually the player's attention is focused on the lower part of the screen (with text), 4K resolution is not just excessive, pointless, and useless—it also extends development time, because rendering in 4K takes significantly longer. For visual novels, anything above 1080p makes no sense. If anything, the developer can render the main assets in 1080p and only render some in 4K to showcase the beauty of specific scenes, but nothing more than that.
P.S. Just to avoid any confusion: I have a 4K monitor, and 1080p works perfectly on it, because it is exactly half the size in each dimension (meaning 4 pixels function as 1, for 1440p monitors, 720p resolution works the same way ). It is possible that in photos, or photorealistic renders, if you look very closely at the tiniest details, you might notice a difference. But I repeat, during gameplay in a VN, no one did, does, or will do this just to play and enjoy the game.

The thing is for you to actually benefit from a 4K image resolution you need to have a comparable bigger monitor and that means you need to back away from the monitor itself to see the whole picture, which also decreases the details you see, which kinda defeats the purpose of it. Unless your the kind of person who stares at the screen up close or someone who likes to zoom in on things.
Honestly, this whole 4K thing is exaggerated. There is little payoff for the exponential rise in time and resource it needs to create. There are few exceptions but a 2D rendered erotic visual novel is not one of them. I rather have more of an actual content in the same timespan of their releases than 4K images rendered.

Is this the first ever reverse harem game in which you start off with all the girls and then drop them as the game goes on until the MC is left with Pornhub and a cumsock?

It seems that soon on F95 there will be not only people who compress games, but also those who will share these games by resolution. It's even a pity for those who will play in 720p, and they'll be forcibly fed 1080p and 4K on top of that.

I don't know why people release renpy games in 4k. Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand renpy always uses software decoding, even if you have the best gpu available, the cpu is the one doing the decoding. So unless you have a high-end cpu the animations will probably not play very smoothly. Also most people don't even have 4k monitors. If you look at steam's hardware surveys, only 5% of steam users have 4k monitors. It seems like such a waste of time and resources.
