Well even if we need a patch for the dark stuff once the game is on steam it's no big deal, they are easy to apply.

The most "dark path" thing that can happen in the remake is that you play that striptease game with Nicki.
Uhm no, the most dark thing that can happen in the remake is quite more than this:

So, you know. The dark path hasn't really gone anywhere. It's neither gone, nor toned down. It's maybe less silly than before, because there's no longer some dumb posturing for Brent's sake. It's now played entirely straight, quite like Ashe's scene in the later part of the game.

We'll see. But there are several things that make me think so:
- In the remake, it's gone. It's not that the dark path has been toned down or reworked. It's simply gone. The most "dark path" thing that can happen in the remake is that you play that striptease game with Nicki. You don't even force her to do it. It's not blackmail either. At most, we could talk about manipulation there.
- In the latest updates, the "Dark path" has been losing strength and time in the game. It's becoming less important to the plot, and less interesting to play. I'm referring to the "hard Dark path," the one with rape. But the blackmail and financial domination path has also lost strength and importance, although not as much.
- It's been rumored that there are plans to bring the game to STEAM. If that's true, obviously the "Dark path" will have to be softened a lot. And rape will disappear.

And personally, I don't think it's a bad thing that the brutal rape of Nicki in Chapter 1 is gone. In fact, rape bores me. I prefer the blackmail and financial domination in Dark Path (something that's also gone), since it's much more fun than just being a psychopath. The problem I have with the remake is that everything is bland and flabby. It's like playing the early game without the Taboo patch, so to speak. And if we add to that the fact that my favorite character in the game, which was Nicki, is now an idealized woman, flawless, without rough edges, etc. Well, I'm not exactly optimistic about the game's future, honestly. But we'll see. For me, this game was the best one on this site. But if the changes follow the remake's line, I'll stop playing it. I found the remake boring to play. If that had been the original Chapter 1, I wouldn't have continued playing the game. I wish the game the best of luck, but I won't be funding it again.
Well, the dark path was a dead end since the beginning. i.e if you rape Viola she's no longer available in later chapters.
Vanilla and corruption are more interesting, i.e making Viola model for you and masturbate.

I disagree in the last part, the dark path has been changed indeed. Maybe it was done inderectly with Neon trying to make Nicki more sympathetic, but it changes the scene that can lead to the rape. The new scene is worse because Guy doesn't have a believable justification to go rape route unlike in the OG.
Saying he's just a muh soggy knee doesn't work imo.

I said it wasn't toned down, not that it wasn't changed. In fact, i have mentioned the aspects which were changed --like the whole dumb writing over Nicki-- which imo isn't toning things down but quite the opposite, removing aspects which previously made it silly and hard to take seriously.

I think the way the scene itself comes about and plays out actually works well in the context. It's Guy spiraling out on the spot in reaction to how his own actions and behavior on that day backfired on him. It is different from the original where Guy could be acting out his outrage at the "betrayal" but imo this new way, while fundamentally different, works too.

Note, that is the scene itself and the immediate setup, specifically. I have my reservation about the prologue in general, but that was already covered in more detail than needed. :sneaky:

Made a search for that question but I might have misunderstood so, sorry for making someone repeat themselves :

The Chap 1 remake is a standalone right now, but I believe it was said it'll be integrated to the main game in a later update, yes ?
Yeah, and there will even be some content shedding light on what Guy was up to between Nicki leaving and meeting Ashe at the bar. :)

Maybe this is a hot take, but I don't think there's ever a "believable justification" for rape.
Agree. Rape is a violent crime, and any justification for it is just there as a rationalization to make the perpetrator feel better about it. And unlike other violent crime, even self-defense doesn't work as a possible justification. That doesn't mean you can't do it (in a video game) but the idea that something they did justifies your actions is just something you made up in your head.

I know you weren't replying to me, but I don't think the body writing was silly personally. It's a common enough kink that I've seen multiple times, and it's supposed to be degrading, like putting your foot on a girl's face while you pound her doggy or something. I think it does a great job leaning into the dark route, and if it's gone from the original, I'll miss it.

I know it's a kink for some people, but i simply can't take it seriously. Additionally, in the context of the game it's just juvenile dick waving and posturing that Guy is doing to get at Brent more than anything else, and it causes all the distaste i'd feel otherwise take a back seat for a knee-jerk "christ what are you, twelve?"

Here's another hot take
Fiction =/= Reality
No one is saying that fiction = reality. That doesn't mean that rape is justified in fiction though - if you do it the character is doing a bad (unjustified) thing in the fictional story. Characters in fiction sometimes do bad things.

Obviously, rape is never okay, justified or whatever you want to call it. But lets say you have a character who's mentally unstable or dealing with some kind of psychosis, they might think what they're doing makes sense, even though it doesn't.

Sure, a person in reality suffering from those things might think the same. I'm not even sure what we're arguing about anymore. I think everyone pretty much agrees that rape is bad, and not a nice thing to do.

Mfers out here lickin' feet and livin' their best lives with NTR, so different strokes for different folks. The C1 Remake only makes the dark path a little harder to get into as opposed to flipping a switch right then and there. It's a little darker this go 'cause there's more to it than flexing on Brent. Mfer is drunk on power and in love with it.
