Hello, I have a question. Could you explain the difference between 'friends in need' and 'friends indeed'?
Basically Friends in Need is the full game where you can be as bad as you want to be. Friends Indeed is the patreon version with fewer options due to their community standards. If you are only interested in being Good Guy, Friends Indeed will provide you with what you are looking for.

I believe Friends indeed is basically a "vanilla" or unfinished version that is released before the full version of an update is ready. I'm not sure if that just means the patch doesn't work on it or that it's even more vanilla than the no-patch version of the game, or if some scenes aren't ready so they're skipped or some bugs haven't been worked out ... etc.

I disagree I think that is part of her personality / quirk. I think any well written character should have something that is unique to them and that is what is unique to her. I frankly like I think it's part of the charm of her character as her talking that way makes her feel more like a friend first then lover which is something I like to see.
Not my place to say because I'm an esl but I think is strange to call a girl, dude, man, bro constantly. Even worse if said girl is your love interest.
Like imagine being with her in the hot tub and saying:
- Bring that ass here bro, I'm gonna fuck you nice my dude :BootyTime:

I mean yeah in that context id agree but it really comes down to the context and what what the girl is like it is id say if it crosses the threshold to being weird. Like id probably think it is weird if was a super girly girl but one that acts like one the boys where you can hangout play video games watch anime like Nicki not so much other than during a sex scene lol.

and she doesn't do it during sex, outside of it I think it's more like a defense mechanism as she doesn't want to be hurt again so she is trying to keep her distance somewhat from a romance perspective. I think on her love route she won't be saying that any more.

Dude has been gender neutral for 40 years, my dude.
Sure, in the same way "man" in theory applies to both genders. Doesn't mean it won't get you weirded out stares slash side eyes if you use it to address bunch of women.

I find it pretty weird in general; it tells something about a person who'd use it, and these aren't really nice things -- it's either lazy/disrespectful towards someone if you can't even be arsed to address them properly, or basically sexist if they claim it's because "you're just as good as the rest of guys" (as if being a guy was somehow inherently superior badge of honor compared to being a woman) or roll out the "well you're acting like a guy" as their justification. Because yeah, of course women don't play video games and have no hobbies other than painting their nails and what do even broads do in their spare time, amirite, har har.

Who cares? it's just how Nicki & Guy talk to each other early in the story. They have a special relationship built on years of friendship.

Who cares about anything that happens in the game? Everything there is just how the characters act. Why bother talking about any of it or even read it in the game to begin with?

So according to you Nicki or Guy saying man or dude or whatever to each other is disrespectful?

Because it's not, as I said, their friendship is different from the other characters.

That's how i view it when it's Guy addressing Nicki, yes. (not the other way -- Guy is a dude) It's either disrespectful or sexist, or a combination of both. It may be subconscious, but that's how it feels and i'm rather annoyed i have no choice in this matter. "Our friendship is different" is just a bullshit excuse. What, Guy can't simply acknowledge he's a close friend and has "special friendship" with a girl?

How about Nicki returns the favor and refers to Guy per "girl" or "bitch" all the time? "Their friendship is just special like that, she sees him as one of the gals".:coffee:

I wouldn't have a problem if she did. Not everyone is super sensitive that they get upset at that. But tell me how would you feel if Nicki said those things to Guy?

Same way i feel about Guy doing the reverse. Having it done once or twice as a clear joke, sure. Making a permanent thing out of it and play that off as "oh it's because you're just so special to me"? If that's your idea of "special friendship" then i'd rather have a regular friendship, thankyouverymuch.

Dev Update! 4/22/25

Hey, folks! Hope you're all doing well this week! Today's going to be a quick update, since I really only have one thing to talk about. That being that Chapter 1's remake is now 99% finished, and currently available to $15+ supporters in its Alpha form. So far, no major bugs, typos, etc. have been reported, so I'm really just tidying it up a bit, and looking at ways I could punch it up before its final release.

Release Schedule:
  • Close Friend $15 - Available now.
  • Friend from Work $5 - Available 4/29.
  • Acquaintance $2 - Available 5/2.
  • Public - Available 5/9.

Besides that, now begins the somewhat tedious work of re-integrating the following chapters with the new Chapter 1. Most of the script really isn't too bad.. I just need to tag more stuff, and do a find + replace for some stuff, while searching for "menu" items and adding more variables to the choices. But, I want to roll the chapters out in chunks of 2-3 at a time to supporters, so people can thoroughly test them, and make sure I didn't break anything.

Then, if all goes well, I'll be back here sometime in late June (or July, if my past ability to keep to a schedule is any indicator..) with the release of Chapter 11, which officially kicks off Friends Indeed: Season Two!

Finally - I added a pinned post to the blog which features all the current links for chapter updates, mini-sodes, short stories, etc. along with convenient links. I still need to work on formatting the short stories into some prettier file format, but that'll be a task for later.

I'll leave you with that for today, but as always: take care of yourselves, and thank you for your support!

Yay! Also, with Ange looking that nice, I look forward to being nice to her…or not...

On the subject of dude's and man's: I take a lot of character traits from people I know or have known in my life, and then kinda toss them into a blender with some fictional stuff, to create a basis for the characters. In Nicki's case, she's based on a girl who I was very good friends with for several years, and we'd always refer to each other as dude, man, buddy, pal, etc. When the stars aligned and we started sleeping together, that habit didn't really go away.

That said, I recognize that it's weird; but Nicki and Guy are both a little weird. I've been trying to downplay it a bit if you're on Nicki's girlfriend/boyfriend path, and lean into the idea that they're both trying to navigate this new reality. When they're texting each other in Chapter 9, you see Nicki trying out different pet names, while not really settling on one. I think we'll eventually see them grow into a more romantic relationship (if they're dating), and act a bit more like a couple. But I doubt the dude's and man's will ever totally go away.

I will admit that there was one small thing I didn't like in the update. It fell short of my expectations and could be measurably improved with a better Daz model. I'm not one to nitpick normally, but this particular Daz model was hideous. There has to be a better one. There just has to. I know that there are bigger considerations, but when your very first reaction is this:

Well, the joke had been ruined by the hideous model. You want the reaction to be "isn't that cute" not KILL IT WITH FIRE!!! Anyway, I won't spoil the joke because I have a moderately sadistic streak and want everyone's dreams to be as troubled as mine by it, but carry on. Just my small opinion on the subject.

I've been saving it up for a long time so I don't know what their romantic relationship is like

But I'm all for them acting more romantic

and doing normal couple of things

But calling each other dude and man doesn't have to go away completely

After all, every couple has their own pet name and love language

And that could be just their thing

It's kind of how Ash has the whole housewife lovey-dovey thing
