Well, tbh, sometimes URM's naming feature isn't enough because, as you say, if it's hard-coded by the author, I don't think you can change the character's nameplate.. which is fucking irritating as you can imagine. I guess I'm going to sound entitled here, but I really wish all authors would store names as a variable. And now I'm going to armchair too, but I mean, I'd be very conscious of one of my players encountering one of my character's names that was really unfortunate... like if the MC's mom has the SAME name as the player's mom... way too fucking weird... happened to me once... thankfully I was able to change the name I think. But if I couldn't... yeah, I would've noped out too. I already have enough guilty regrets as is

I think I'm kinda in the same boat as them, I'll attempt to explain. I don't read these to crank one out it's an enjoyable amount of titillation and I often click through overlong sex scenes pretty quickly. Does the occasional scene get to me, yeah, but the goal isn't the same as if I load up the hub. I passively consume these on my phone read story during dull moments and hey some titties or ass every once in a while. Yay! Rather than playing like brick breaker or some shit. I drop AVNs like crazy if the reading is too rough (bad translations mostly).
I'm the opposite, anything too sexual makes me want to do something about it, which means it's incredibly frustrating if I'm in a situation where I can't.

I've only been to a strip club once and was incredibly uncomfortable the entire time... I've gotta have an emotional connection to someone before my brain let's me do the sexy times so when dealing with real people I'm pretty closed off sexually. No one night stands for me ever due to that. Oh I definitely agree AVNs are more effective with a story. Actual porn videos it kinda depends on the style of the production whether I feel like it needs a justification for the fucking.
