I'm not sure this is really the case, given some aspects of this plot are established as early as Ch.2-3, something which only becomes apparent in hindsight.
This reminds me of a friend of mine who insists there are "clues" that Luke Skywalker and Leia are siblings from the very first film in the saga (Episode IV, after the prequels were filmed).
But anyway, that's an example of how a bad script doesn't stop a work from having legions of fans (myself included). The thing is, if someone tells me the Star Wars script is excellent, I'm going to turn up my nose and tell them that not everything they like is good. Sometimes you feel like eating a McDonald's hamburger more than a dish of haute cuisine, but that doesn't mean a McDonald's hamburger is quality food.

Wait, how does this work? I'm confused -- Ch.1 rework was about fleshing out Guy and Nicki. It didn't have anything to do with the drug dealer plot, no..? The changes in the remake don't really touch it.
If it was planned from the start a story rework would be unnecessary (y)

But the rework didn't touch any aspect of the drug dealing plot, so it doesn't indicate if it's been planned or not. You'd have a point if the rework has added something tied to the drug dealing thing specifically, but that's not the case here..?

You didn't mention drug dealing in the original post I responded to, you're adjusting the goal post my friend:giggle:

My entire response was to this part of soldano's post:
I think the introduction of the drug dealer—I don't remember if his name was Damian—was a negative turning point in the plot. (...) That plot wasn't planned from the start, and it's very noticeable.
So no, this isn't moving goal posts, but i could've made it perhaps more obvious with a more complete quote. Sorry about that.

Remake is only Ch 1 for now but I think when Chapter 11 comes out when the full remake is integrated to the main game we are gonna have to redo our saves if im not mistaken.
I think there is going to be a Ch 1-10 release. Ch 11 isn't coming until July but IIRC the new Ch 1-10 is done or almost and there is new dialogue and something like 250 new renders in 2-10 so you're probably want to start over anyway.

Edit: From Patreon

As far as the game, work continues here in the rendering mines, and I'm making steady progress. I've added 250ish renders over the last two weeks, and I'm nearing the end of the work I need to do for the stuff that goes between the new Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. There's some additional background for our hard-luck hero, a new ero scene, and some little appearances from Carolina and the Chen family.

As always, things end up taking me longer than I'd like, but I'm working as quickly as I can to get this stuff finished, so I can move onto rendering Chapter 11. I promise, I'm just as eager to get back to the present as everyone else is. I'm planning to hit the ground running on June 1st, so that's my self-imposed deadline, to stop fiddling with other stuff.

Anyone know how difficult it is for this game to:
a) Alter some dialogue
b) Unlock all choices, regardless of light/dark points

You can use Unren to decompile the game and access the script(s) if you would like to alter code/dialogue. This is fairly easy to do. I just VScode or you can use notepad++, bbedit etc.

In terms of unlocking all choices, either have multiple playthroughs or wait for someone to make a gallery/mod to unlock them. I don't think anyone is modding this until we have the rebooted Chapter 1 fully integrated with all the new light/dark points variables.

Neon has also mentioned he will in the future look into making a gallery - but maybe once the game is complete or at least this first part.

For some people, many in fact, the remake fails narratively. And hence the criticism.
Because I understand that we can consider the Chapter 1 Remake an update, right?
If not, there are also people, far fewer, who think the game began to spiral downward after the dinner with Ashe chapter.
In my opinion, the game reached its peak in that chapter with Ashe, and then has had its ups and downs. I think the introduction of the drug dealer—I don't remember if his name was Damian—was a negative turning point in the plot. In my country, we call that "a morcilla" (blood sausage), something that appears unexpectedly in the plot and that hadn't been foreshadowed. As an anecdote, it's called that because blood sausages are often filled with unexpected and low-value things. Does that mean many people won't like that plot? No, of course not. But we're not talking about taste or enjoyment here, at least not for me, but rather a narrative structure error. That plot wasn't planned from the start, and it's very noticeable. It's something that appears, unexpectedly, when the plot had already been established, and it "hijacks" it. That becomes the focus from then on, which is a mistake and considerably lowers the narrative quality of the work. Is the game a narrative disaster from then on? No, of course not. It continues to offer good things, especially what continues the previously established plot. That's why I say it has ups and downs from that point on.

But anyway, what I'm saying is that you can't assume that other game users have to admit that the game hasn't failed to deliver narrative quality in some updates. That's assuming too much, and putting too much trust in your abilities to judge the narrative quality of a plot.
A lot of things you say here are just wrong and have been explained multiple times already. ('wasn't planned' 'wasn't foreshadowed', etc.). And doesn't even make sense; 'plot structure error'? What? How? Explain.

Honestly, it's a little odd that someone criticizes an 'unexpected plot development.' That's a good thing. It means something surprised you. Is it really that strange that a small-time sex/drug trafficker makes his debut as the antagonist in a VN like this?

Sometimes reading these comments, my shoulders just can't shrug any higher. :p

The character is established to change his name often, so he probably chose it for its sinister associations.

That gentleman's name is actually Lucien Greaves.

I've actually talked about this before though, and I do feel kinda bad about it. It was entirely accidental/coincidental. I'm a big comic book dork, and for Lucien I was channeling some of Lucifer, from Mike Carey's long-running Vertigo title. I wanted Lucien to be, in his way, charming and fun, behaving like the hero of his own story. So, I mentally anchored him to this sympathetic portrayal of Lucifer. Because Lucifer from the comics was visually based on David Bowie, I thought it'd be fun to give Lucien an eye similar to Bowie's, where the pupil is permanently dilated due to physical trauma. Finally, I gave him the (fake) surname Graves, because I love the Scott Pilgrim comics, and the villain in those books is a misogynist creep high on his own superiority, named Gideon Graves.

And so we end up with this fun little moodboard.

But also.. Lucien is kind of a self-important edgelord, who would think Lucien Graves just sounded like a badass name.
