I'd still include "experience in being a man/woman" as contributions to life experience and character/personality though.
In terms of porn games it should only matter in a modern "slice of life" setting with a focus on realism or the author's personal fantasies. Or in a broader correlation study I guess, if you could somehow obtain a representative sample.
As a man I can't say any of the male characters strike me as particularly realistic either though. Granted as a nerd with no friends I'm not exactly "public normal" but a lot of characters more closely resemble those unanimously voted the scum of the Earth in customer service or "revenge" subreddits than normal people in everyday life.
If only women could write believable female characters, we wouldn't have so many great male book authors.
Or conversely, male characters would all be bland in novels written by women.
However, we have to admit that being a dev of a porn game does not make us a writer. We all have our limitations and need to improve. Most of us (devs) learn by doing.
Making a game means inventing the plot, writing the dialogues, (often translate,) coding, drawing. Most of us are alone to do this, sometimes two, rarely more.
Some devs are better at dialogue, some at images, some at coding. No game will please everyone.
We make porn games, we do not aim at literary prizes.
I take the example of my game: My goal is that my heroine be credible in her evolution in the game. Not that her reactions are those of a real woman.
When I invented this character, I made her young but with the sexual freedom of a mature woman. My goal is that she doesn't ask herself all the questions that a real woman would ask herself about the way other people look at her. That she be free of the taboos of our societies. She is not afraid of anything, she has no limits. She likes sex, she want sex and she charms all the guys she meets.
This is by no means the reality for a young woman in this world.
So...I'm a woman but women in my game aren't realistic.
Does this mean that women cannot identify with the heroine? I hope no
