Hey everyone, small update. I have joined the discord server gates motel and reached the dev, but haven't yet received a reply back. I have asked the discord the same question I asked here and have met a few interests just as much in this post. I recently posted in another thread asking others of potential interests as well as potentially gathering new members. The post can be found here

TLDR; I will try my utmost best on trying to recreate the game from scratch to continue the Dev's game. I can't use the same models, assets, story but I will follow the dev's inspiration of Psycho and Bates Motel. My intention isn't to replace or improve Psychos game but to loosely continue his game through a fan remake. I am currently reading the book and watching the show to draw parallels. If anyone is interested, please voice your opinions and you can add me on discord under my same username used here. I will see if I can create a discord server, story beats, and dev thread to follow along. Right now things are early but looking promising. I'll update you all further real soon. Stay tuned!

Hey everyone, I hope you had a great week as it comes to an end. As promised, I have returned with updates that may upset you. As stated before, I reached out to the developer P_S_Y_C_H_O in hopes of getting his blessing to continue Gates Motel, but I have yet to hear back from him. With that in mind, I won't be able to continue the development of Gates Motel or use any of his assets, narrative, or setting.

In my last update, I mentioned that I created a post in the general discussion, and I received feedback. Most of the responses suggested that I should create my own game, loosely inspired by Bates Motel and Psycho. However, starting from scratch presents some laborious challenges, and I won't be able to continue Gates Motel as intended. I was initially taken aback by the idea, as I truly loved the game and would have happily continued the work. After some thought, I ultimately decided that this might be the right choice. I don't want to usurp P_S_Y_C_H_O's game or his hard work, nor do I plan to poach his fans or Patreon contributors, as those were never my intentions from the beginning. My only choice now is to create a spiritual successor that carries the same themes, narrative and inspiration.

With that said, I have made the decision to start a new psychological horror erotic thriller visual novel game called Beneath Her Shadow.

A bold, psychological thriller where erotic desire meets psychological horror. This game pushes the boundaries of Ren’Py’s storytelling, offering a deeply immersive, mature narrative that blends seduction, suspense, and mind-bending horror into a truly unforgettable experience.

Step into the fractured mind of a young man struggling with reality, desire, and the weight of a dark legacy. Running a secluded family motel, he finds himself spiraling into a web of obsession, control, and forbidden temptations. As secrets unravel and his past collides with his present, players must navigate a psychological descent filled with eroticism, paranoia, and chilling revelations.

Do you have the courage to face your own dark desires?

Again, I know that this isn't the news you were anticipating, but I do strongly believe that there was a evocative story that has yet to be told.

It's true, I'm actively developing the game and with the help with the community, I'm making improvements each day. You can follow more of it here. Please feel free to join us and provide any input you'd like as I value everyone's opinion. As mentioned before, I visit every week to continue chatting and give updates. I imagine once the game is out of the pre-production stages, I will be less chatting as my main priority would be to create a well crafted game. Love you all and stay tuned!

Hey there! I have mentioned that earlier in this thread that I unfortunately can not make a remake of Gates Motel as I didn't get permission from the dev P_S_Y_C_H_O, so I can not use any characters, assets, setting, or story in my game. Instead I have decided to work on a spiritual successor that loosely adapts both the show Bates Motel and the book Pyscho. My post can be found here as I have explained it and introduced the new game I am currently working on.

The game is primarily linear with light sandbox elements, meaning no grinding, no time management, no day/night cycles. Just raw, story-first immersion. The map plays a key role in how players experience this world and its branching paths.

At key moments, you’ll use the map to investigate locations tied to missing characters, strange objects, or hidden truths. Your choices will shape what you discover.

The map also reflects missed opportunities as locations that appear but remain inaccessible in certain routes. These aren’t locked arbitrarily due to them being hints at content on other paths, encouraging replaying without forcing it.

Each route (there are three in total) opens unique areas, secrets, and relationships. Some places will only ever exist in whispers if you’re not on the right path. This gives the town of San Marena Bay and Arelea a layered, living feel. It's purpose is to piece together a mystery in your own way, and seeing how the world reacts to your choices.
