I personally have experience with both (although, as you can see, only as an amateur).Out of curiosity, why did you choose RPGMaker over Ren’Py? I always wonder about that. I actually drafted a Ren’Py blueprint for a game similar in setting and tone to yours (and Queen in Defiance, love that one).
Not everyone has patience with Ren'Py code. I'm tired of hearing this type of comment about my games.
If they knew how to create in Ren'Py, of course, the game would be made in this program.
However, Ren'py is more popular with the public, more modern, and relatively less complicated when learning the basics...
As cons, it can' give the deep impressions that rpg can do. Example: you can't move your char and walk around.
Rpgm is basically an editor that can let you do almost everything if you have imagination.
But it also have lot of cons: first of all is full of bugs, you can do all right, but somethime it clash itself and you can't have a single idea of how to go trought... As example, this maid_bug had no way or reason to appear at the beginning of the game..
But it happened... Also rpg have lots of restrictions about compatibility... Just consider that a lot of people still crash on videos and others no...
They both have pro and cons, it will be your choice knowing them.
