There's no good reason to not break up the text. That's what the paragraphs are for! They do exactly that. Instead of using a line break, you simply use Ren'Py how it was intended to be used.

Scrolling doesn't add anything of value, it's only a nuisance. Stop lying about people had cast a vote for that awful design choice or that an English professor was all in favor for it. At least be honest and admit you are too lazy/busy to change your code atm.

I'm sure Mars could change my code, but I really did run a poll and my patrons chose that (I also prefer it). You should also note that, I had to ask Mars to actually make the scrolling occur. Because it doesn't naturally do that on this engine, so yes, this is actually intended. And it is not going to change. If you are going to converse with me, have some civility and a little professionalism please.

And of course, no one here has to play it. I'm not forcing you to anyway. If the scrolling bothers you, there are hundreds of other games here you can play instead. Regardless, have a happy Halloween nonetheless.

Why would you need Mars to change it? You surely have tried out the different ways Ren'Py can display text yourself, have you not?

No Mars is my volunteer programmer, he does all that kind of stuff. I'm the creative type, so I do all the other things. The whole reason I switched from twine, which I was able to handle that simplistic kind of programming, to these more complicated games was because fans offered to help me with the programming. That's why I would need Mars to change it lol he wrote the code anyway so that I could have the scroll bar. Maybe you're new to my work?

I see. I understand that you don't want to dive any deeper into unfamiliar territory, but Ren'Py is easy to work with. At least when it comes to displaying text on a few images - which is part of the creative work you're giving away. There can be certain rhythm to a slideshow, you know, something that doesn't work with a scroll bar.

The basics take only a few minutes to learn. It's not much more difficult than a plain text editor. And once you're familiar with the basics you can change the script of Mars without changing all the complicated parts. And perhaps you still don't want to change it in the end, but at least you'll be able to weigh the options.

Oh yeah when I first switched from twine to Renpy, we tried it both ways. So there was a short time period in there somewhere, where it worked like how my SBC game works. Which I don't like, but that aside, I had to break up the text. Like when I was writing my text I had to put something in there so that it knew it was at the end, and then start another paragraph.

I did not like that at all. In some cases I had to break up the middle of a sentence, I couldn't tell where to put the things. It really was a hassle. I think it works okay for more simplistic kind of visual novels that you see most of the time, much like SBC, where you have a few sentences, and then a few sentences, this guy says one thing, then this guy says another.

But it did not work for me, I didn't like it very much like that. I liked the way that it worked on twine much better where you could scroll and I could just write unhassled. So that's when I held that poll, so myself, I'm going to have the scroll bar. I'm not going to get rid of it, and I'm sure someday I'm going to have to learn how to use Renpy, although I'll probably have most of these menus and everything ready to go because of Mars, so hopefully it won't be too hard for me if I ever have to do it if he happens to pass away or something. Although I figure I'll go first lol

But at any rate, for me I like to be able to scroll and as the creator I like to be able to just write and not have to worry about breaking up weird chunks of my writing. I'm able to write and let my mind flow, and when I scroll it's no different than you scrolling on this screen right now. I understand it's not going to be for everyone, but like I also said, if they want something that they can just click through or whatever, they have plenty of other things to choose from. Anyway, as always I appreciate the feedback! But I just want to be clear and set that expectation again that it isn't going to change. I have no plans of ever changing it.

I really have no idea how that third party app works. I know there is a large Joiplay Community around here as I have noticed several threads over time. You might want to go ask in one of those, or maybe one of them mentions the same issue you are having. Of course, if you have the Patreon version of Joiplay, then probably reporting it directly on a post to the creator would get you the best answer of all. Sorry to hear about that! I liked having it on Android, but that 2GB limit (I know someone will profess all the great reasons it exists) but I find it silly. It should just be an option on ones device if they want to allow apps larger than 2GB or not.

How the fuck do you open this door?!?!?!??!
Not sure which door you mean, this release has been around for several months, maybe almost a year now, so I am surprised no one, even on Steam, has mentioned a bugged door. Can you screenshot your map on the screen so I can see what door/square on the map that you mean?

sailahn - There IS a bug! It just got found. It's crazy! lol But by sometime tomorrow a fixed version will be up. If anyone else hits an issue in the Salon, where they cannot get through the door- be advised that it is bugged for now. How this slipped through boggles the mind.

Happy Halloween! As promised, this year's treat is the newest version of GN! That is the Salon Mission and all 12 of the new Commissioned Bad Ends. A broken PC version was linked here and erroneously updated by a wayward moderator, but worry not, you now have the actual one that does not crash! I'll add that you can now support me not only on Patreon- but Steam and Itch both have GN on them too! D:BB will soon arrive as well! Again, Happy Halloween! MWA HA HA HA!

Quick question, is steam going to be on the same version as patreon? And also what mission is the patreon version currently on?

We just found a bug though, like a game breaking bug. That's the problem with these alphas I guess, so you might want to wait on your torrent. Up to you.

Thanks for mention, I'll add a note.
Will update to 0.10.6 as soon as the bug is fixed.

Well every year on Halloween, I like to give out something as a treat! I've done it for 10 years, and so normally, the one that I post here is one behind what steam or Patreon has, but since it's Halloween, the treat is that everybody gets access to the same version. So for this version, it's the same here as it is on Steam, itch, or Patreon. Happy Halloween!

Oh really? From some of the screenshots on steam I thought it was on the next zone already. Thats cool that we're all caught up for now. You're quite a generous dev, especially considering the quality of your work :)

Thank you! I hope that it inspires folks to support me financially, but also, I am of the mindset that everyone should get a chance to enjoy my work, even if they cannot afford it. So, I always give it out for free, but usually give the paying people the small perk of getting to enjoy it first, and then, everyone can!

Yep am loving it on Steam as have bought it as well, and additionally it makes up for an ideal Halloween gift so definitely gonna use it for some friends who'll love it. But again appreciate ya giving out treats, it is a noble deed indeed

It's not an arbitrary limit, it's a technical one. Files on some filesystems just can't be larger than a certain size. Why Android uses FAT32 without Large File Support like it's the early 90s or something I have no idea, but it isn't an arbitrary limit you can just toggle off. Android apps that need more than 2GB of data have to break it up into multiple smaller data files instead of one big one, and they can't all be downloaded in one package (because this would defeat the purpose).
